A: It will not wash off, however it can be wiped off with some effort.

A: I use CorrosionX Extreme duty 2 grease on my trailer wheel bearings and any grease fittings on the trailer and boat.
An excellent product.
Get a 16 ounce squirt bottle of Corrosion X spray while you are at it. Red label. Works on everything.
The Rejex high gloss spray sheds water off the windshield like crazy.
I keep all 3 of these products on hand 
for maintaining my salt water boat.
