Magical Book
I bought this to read to my 7 year old grandson because he loved the Guinea Dog series by the same author. This book was very sweet and I think I enjoyed it as much as he did. My grandson loves all kinds of animals and it was really fun to see him recognize the clues the author kept dropping about the identity of the new student at school. Very fun read.

Student review and prediction (SPOILERS INCLUDED)
I think that the next thing that will happen in the book is the two girls will become friends with Woodrow and toulouse. Then Toulouse will show them the “secret” and then they will know that Toulouse is an owl. After the thing about the girls becoming friends the bullies will eventually realize that they can’t beat Woodrow and Toulouse so they will eventually give up. Then because the bullies gave up they Woody would get more friends. So the ending of the story was pretty obvious because we all knew that Toulouse was an owl and we knew that Woodrow would find out at the end.Overall the story was great considering that we just read a hard and complicated story and I think that we should read more mystery type stories like this one. So I think this story was awesome and we should read more books like this one from Patrick Jennings.-From Rishi C. in Tr. Hal's Class

Sweet story
My son asked me to purchase this book after his teacher started reading it aloud to the class. It is so high interest, and the story is very sweet. My son loved it!

great read-aloud or read alone
This was a book I purchased for my second grade granddaughter. " She can't put it down " is the report from my son and daughter-in -law. I had heard about it from a radio program about best books of the year for children. If the response toward the book from my granddaughter is any indication, I would recommend it for children, either as a teacher/parent read aloud or read alone.

Positive Feedback
I choose this book for my grandchildren's "playthings at Grandma's house" collection. The theme is relevant and the message is a good learning experience for children (and adults).

Cute but a little boring
This book is well suited for young readers and is a cute story. It's themed on bullying, but in quite a gentle way. It is from the perspective of a child, which is cute and pure. However, it lacked suspense or tension and there wasn't much depth to the story. It's quite an easy read, and probably good for reluctant readers. However, I think that more avid young readers would find it boring and flat as a story.
