Cable works great and EVI customer service is first rate
We bought the former version of this charging cable a year ago. It has worked great with our 2013 Nissan Leaf. All of a sudden two weeks ago we plugged in the cable and the Leaf began to emit three beeps in sequence when we attempted to use it. My husband contacted EVI's customer service and they immediately sent a pre-paid shipping label to return the cable. Within two days they wrote back with a diagnosis. Honoring their warranty they sent us back the new model cable using express shipping. The charging cable works great and EVI stands behind its product and provides exceptional customer service should you need it. If you are looking for a charging cable, don't hesitate! You can trust Electric Vehicle Institute.

Not weather-proof.
I decided to opt for this significantly cheaper charger. It does work on the Chevy Volt and charges at an equivalent rate to the Volt's charger on it's quickest setting. However, after using this device for 3 months, it has failed due to the first very light rain. The website claims it is weather-proof but I can confirm that this is not the case. The device uses a weather-proof enclosure but water can enter in multiple places: the holes drilled for the indicator lights, the button, and the rubber interface for the two cables.

Buyer Beware
I ordered my first cord 12-30-14 and received in in a timely manner with a 6-50 plug. It would not charge my 2012 leaf even after waiting an hour for the cord and the car to sync as requested by the company. I stated that a little longer cord would fit my need better. They offered a longer cord at no charge. After sending back the first cord and receiving the second I plugged it in and it did exactly like the first one. One of the lights would blink fast but it did not charge my car regardless of charge timers on or off it just did not work! Now the company only wants to refund me $200 as of 2-10-2015 because of the longer cord length. I spent a little more on a turbocord and have never been happier.

I'm sure it might work better with a car other than the leaf
I had to return this because the cord was not long enough for my 2015 Leaf and when I plugged it in the car did not charge up. I'm not sure what the problem is but I had to return the item. I'm sure it might work better with a car other than the leaf. I should of read the reviews more carefully before I ordered because I went back over them and found others who used it on a Leaf had a similar experience.

Good and affordable portable EVSE
This EVSE from EVI is a good portable option.First, it is very compact and light. Compared to the large and heavy Level 1 EVSE that came with the vehicle, this this is about 1/8 the size, and comes with a good cord length. The unit itself consists of:1) housing that contains the charging contact controller, status lights, and power button2) short pigtail end with standard 120VAC NEMA 5-15 plug3) approx. 17 foot cable to J1772 plug that also has a leashed dust capIn the box was also a very brief instruction and drawing set.The EVSE was easy to operate as a Level 1 charger. Plug it in to a 120V outlet, connect to the vehicle, and press the power button. When you initially plug the unit in, the Power LED turns on, showing power to the box. When you plug in the vehicle and when the vehicle is charging the LEDs turn on accordingly. When the vehicle is completed charging, the charging LED goes out. With this EVSE my Volt charges at the higher 12 amp setting without a problem.According to the documentation this EVSE can be connected up to 250VAC, and therefore yield a Level 2 charger at 16 amps. You would need an adapter to take it from the NEMA 5-15 plug to whatever your need is. With the right adapter you could plug this into a dryer or welder outlet and have Level 2 charging, although not something that I intend to do.Couple of other notes:-Unit has Chinese (?) characters as well as English on the status lights legend as well as on the warning sticker in the label-The controls housing has a good loop at the top where you can hang on a wall or you can put a small caribiner there to hang it from so you don't strain the cable when plugged in-The leashed dust cap hangs against the vehicle when plugged in, so may scratch the side of the car over time-The controls housing gets warm-The documentation claims the unit is IP55 rated for water resistance.Just got it recently so we'll see how durable it is. This would be a great replacement (or addition) for the EVSE that comes with the car. Keep one at home, and use the other for the road. It is cheaper, lighter, smaller, and capable of plugging into 240V of you carry an adapter.

Electric Car Charger
The initial electric car charger I received was like the one I already had that came with Volt car purchase. I wanted one that had a quicker charge. The company was understanding and great about exchanging one charger for another. They were fast and kind enough to do an even-exchange. The new one is working great.

Does not work with 2013 Nissan Leaf
Although other reviews say this charger is compatible with the Nissan Leaf, this charger would not work with my 2013 Nissan Leaf. I tried two different chargers that were sent by the company. Neither one worked, while my OEM charger works just fine.
