Special info for the Brother MFC 9560 CDW TN 310/315 refill:
Special info for the Brother MFC 9560 CDW TN 310/315 refill: For an initial refill of the toner cartridges that come with the printer i.e., without the "flag gear" or "reset gear" on each of the toner cartridges, there are barely adequate instructions on YouTube, inadequate instructions in the kit.First, review one or more of the YouTube videos so that you have a general idea of what you are looking at. Filling is straightforward, but MESSY. Spread out newspapers and wear your painting clothes. Having at hand a vacuum cleaner with small attachments is a good idea. Use a pen knife or similar object to SLOWLY AND PATIENTLY pry off the toner plug. Once you get the new toner bottle in place and started, PUNCTURE a hole in the bottom of the (plastic) container to improve flow. Clean up.Installing the flag gear entails removing the three screws, carefully removing the plastic gear cover, placing the flag gear and its spring as shown in the videos, and closing up. Keep the gearbox end upright so gears don't fall out. (They only go back one way, so it's not a disaster.) Reinstall the toner cartridge into the tray, the tray into the printer, and close the cover. You're good to go, they say. And you might be.BUT IF YOU GET A "REPLACE TONER" MESSAGE (like I did), HERE'S A SECRET FOR THE 9560: Open the front cover (toner bay). Press the "Clear" button. A SECRET MENU will appear from which you can reset any toner cartridge. Voila!

It's OK if you are a super DIY'r; it's not if you don't understand what that means
The toner seems to work, so that's good, but I haven't printed that much with it yet.I thought this packet came with "caps" for the hole in the cartridge where the toner goes. I didn't get any. I did get caps for the funnels for the toner bottles. Is that what they meant? When/if you buy, you should ask and clarify.I did break one cartridge cap. I learned you need to shove a little screwdriver about half an inch straight down before prying it out. if you only go 1/8 of inch, you'll puncture the cap. But, not a complete loss, if you have some glue and duct tape (i patched my broken cap and it doesn't leak so far - but read the first paragraph. I could have used new cartridge caps!I did get 4 reset gears and 4 springs. I only needed 3. But only one set worked. The others, when installed, would not spring back when pushed. Thus, when installed in the machine and it tested each cartridge, it reported that those 2 cartridges needed replacing.I tried greasing the gear. that didn't work. What did was boring out the inside of the gear a little bit. I wrapped some sand paper around a drill bit and twisted it inside the gear. It was like filing your nails - white powder came out.As a result, the gear had an easier time spinning on the spindle where it goes. So, the spring was able to push it back into place and turn it.If it wasn't for this ingenuity (and fortune that I didn't break something) I would have had to buy new reset gears and filler caps.It should have worked out of the box. Thus, if you are into Doing It Yourself (DIY), are not skilled and have the tools and time, this may not be the set for you.By the way, there is a good youtube video out there, that explains why and how you should vacuum out all the old toner. Fortunately, I have a wet dry vac with a hepa filter for outdoor projects. otherwise, I wouldn't use my indoor vac - i wouldn't want to risk that the vacuum would blow the toner all over my house.

Price is right, kit is complete
Comes with a pretty good sheet describing the process, but nothing beats a YouTube demonstration. See [...]Here is one thing I wish I had known, though, and it should NOT reflect poorly on this product or the seller. When refilling my so-called starter cartridge, I found a significant amount of toner remaining even when the printer said it was out. I think this is the reason: the starter cartridge has no reset flag so it apparently determines how much life is left via some other means, which is very conservative. So I just installed the reset flag gear (which come with this kit) without replacing the toner, in order to use up the rest of the starter toner. I wish I had known this earlier because I inadvertently dumped a lot of the toner out thinking it was empty.
