ProTuff 490 Promise 19.5in Pro Pool Leaf Rake Net, Deep Bag Skimmer

I bought this skimmer net in 2019...not even thinking much about the warranty...fast forward to summer of 2026! The net is still in good shape but the plastic is breaking off around the lip. I logged into the company website and requested a replacement under warranty, and 2 days later viola! A new one appears on my doorstep, no questions asked. This is why I also bought the pool brush from this company, service and warranty is TOP NOTCH. I have never had pool tools last more than a season or two. Well worth the extra $$$

It doesn't flex or feel flimsy, even when lifting heavier debris. I am writing this review 5 years after I bought this net and the pole it attaches to. Yes, 5 years! This net was subjected to daily, heavy use. I left it outdoors in the elements with the other cleaning equipment. No babying here! And it still lasted this long. The only thing that finally went wrong with it was a small hole that developed on the seam. After 5 years! I actually was going to buy a new one—and gladly so— because it had been such a great purchase. But when I went to buy a new one, I learned mine came with a lifetime warranty. I contacted the company, pretty much expecting the typical response when you try to redeem a warranty. You know, where the company tries to get out of honoring it. That did not happen here. On the contrary, they were friendly, professional, prompt, and immediately got my replacement processed. I’m getting my new net in a few days. How amazing is that? Regarding the net: it is very well made. The plastic from which the net hangs is thick and solid and resistant to the elements. After 5 years, it hasn’t even faded. It did not crack, flake, or otherwise degrade. The metal part is entirely intact. No rusting, no bending or warping. And the fit with the pole is still snug and secure. The net itself is tough and strong, yet the mesh is fine enough to capture everything. This is a small business with a well-made product and excellent customer service that honors its word. Buy from them with confidence. In short, as I said, TOP QUALITY. So satisfied with this purchase and the customer service.

UPDATE 8/8/23 This net has performed perfectly since 2019. I mentioned earlier, I don't store the 16' pole, nor the 20" net outdoors, where the sun can get at them. Still, the net just received a mystery tear near the bottom stitching. Nothing earth shattering but pool junk could get through the little hole. I remembered this company's warranty, so I went to their website and found they now require product registration, in order to qualify for all refunds/replacements. I'm thinking this weeds out fraudulent claims, if you can't produce the Amazon order (I don't think it involves selling info) but again, no problem. I have my own company and I'd so the same, if I had the best warranty on earth! You can see where I'm going with this, these truly are lifetime purchases AND I would have purchased without the warranty they offer. These are commercial grade products, something I appreciate and I hope you'll feel the same. I've never been approached for a testimonial, this is my way of saying thanks for outstanding products (and warranties). So don't sit on the fence, just buy their products, you can't go wrong. We purchased this net on 12/10/19 and the net's always been in perfect condition. When not in use, it's stored in the pool locker, so it's out of sunlight and the elements. After returning from vacation, I noticed several small rips in the fabric, enough of a rip that small particles could float back out and into the pool. I do ALL of my own pool maintenance but I entrusted a neighbor to take care of the pool, in our absence. I don't know what she did but the net was ripped (and I wasn't about to ask). We remembered the reason for this purchase, was the outstanding warranty and like many other reviewers, thought this might be a scam. I mean really, it's the only seller I've ever seen that makes this kind of statement and even if they did honor the warranty, it probably comes with tons of "gotcha" catches, or they want all kinds of private info and contact numbers, etc. Nope, just a couple of easy questions and a request to not have them expedite the net (if you can hold on to your sea horses)! So, it's on the way. I'm so impressed and our 16' pro pool pole just arrived an hour ago! That also comes with the same warranty. Keep up the good work and thanks for having the best warranty in the industry. I do believe, these will be our last purchases for this type of equipment.......WELL DONE! UPDATE 1/10/22: Not only did they replace the net, they sent the whole package (brand new) frame and all! I wanted to ask for the frame too but thought that would be bad form. Nice to see they took it upon themselves to replace the ENTIRE purchase......wow! I'm not a review writer but this company has exceptional warranty service and I know a good warranty when I see one. I like their products so much, I purchased the Ultimate Series 16' Pool Pole, while waiting for the net replacement. You can read my post there, as well. I have purchased 3 ProTuff products over past 2 yrs. First, the silt net in March '18 for my pool. Based on the positive experiencese of this over 6 months, I bought a leaf rake (23.5") for my parents pool (that I usually clean) in Nov. '18. And recently (May '20), I upgraded my pool leaf rake (19.5") from a local pool store brand as it was already deteriorating after 18 months of use. My parents 23.5" is still in great shape. Based on that background, here's my review: Leaf rakes: these are built much better than the "higher quality" (more expensive!) ones I got here at Leslie's in TX. Seems every year or every other year, I was replacing my pool nets. My poles and nets hang on a wall and these get full sun, so the environment can take a toll on them. But my parents leaf rake is in great condition still and I expect mine to also last for long time. Only caution: if you get the largest net like I did, just know it can weigh a lot come fall when full of leaves. I prefer the 19.5" for a faster clean than the 23.5". I clean my pool daily (or my kids do!) as the live oaks here seem to drop leaves daily all year round. Silt rake: I purchased this to get the sand / pollen out of the pool. We have a waterfall and either by wind or erosion of our flagstone rock, sand is regularly in our catch basin. My kids hate cleaning with the silt net as its much harder to clean. But given what you are trying to do (pull sand off the bottom floor into the net), it makes sense this has a higher drag and thus harder to move around in the water. I love it! It's satisfying to have the pool crystal clean in areas the Polaris doesn't reach. I did place a warranty claim on the silt net after 2 yrs of regular use given I experienced a small hole in the silt net. Customer Service was outstanding. Simple call, explained my silt net had a small hole, and they sent me a replacement. Received new net in short order and like the leaf nets, the quality of the silt net is much higher than the previous types of silt nets I had purchased in past years. Bottom line: Both silt and leaf nets are solidly built and have held up well. But what separates this company as my go to source going forward is the guarantee. They stand behind what they sell and have proven that to me. If you want a quality net and a guarantee to go with it, look no further. Attached picture is my newest leaf net (19'5") and the 18 mo old (local pool store) net that already had a few holes (one of which you can see in the picture).

3 Year Update: the skimmer still works fine. The net looks like new.. the plastic frame has faded in the sun, but otherwise seems fine. No complaints other than the increased weight over the cheapo skimmers. I've only had it for a couple weeks, but so far I really like this skimmer. With the size of the mouth and the bag, I can skim my whole pool without stopping to empty things. I use it mainly for skimming.. I find using a vacuum to still be the best way to clean the bottom of my 9' deep 20x40' pool. In terms of skimming, I think it does a great job and I can get things done much faster than with the old regular skimmer. However, I do agree with the comments here that this unit is heavy and tires you out. It's easy when skimming along the edges, but if you have to get right out to the middle, it's tough. I haven't heard from her yet, but I expect my wife will complain when she finally tries it. I got the 19~20" model. I'm curious if the smaller one would've been a better choice for me, but will probably stick with this one because I like the time savings of the bigger mouth. The quality of the unit is amazing. I think it'll last a long, long time. Emptying the bag at the end is a little more of a struggle, I used to just slap the old skimmer on the top of my fence and all the debris would fall off. With this bag design, it's possible to do the same thing, but usually the bag doesn't flip inside out and cooperate. I've found it easiest to just use my hand to push it inside, out, then stand back and slap it once or twice on the fence. This minor inconvenience is balanced by the fact that I only need to do it once or twice per use now compared to 17 times with the old lightweight skimmers. I also agree with others here that the shape isn't ideal. If you're skimming right near the edge, you can get it square to the water surface and really enjoy the speedy cleaning. But if you're reaching way out sideways, the opening is angled to the water surface. I wonder if a diamond shape might be the best compromise for this?? I know the company actively reads these comments, so please consider a diamond shape as a possible new product variant! (and let me know if you need a product tester!)

I bought this net in 2022 and have used it like crazy. It is super strong and well built, but I ended up with a little hole in the mesh and things were escaping as I scooped. I called the company and in two minutes had a replacement coming. It’s a great net and the service and guarantee is even better! Buy it!

This is the time of year that I have my battle with the leaves from all of my deciduous trees, so the net is used daily. The net works beautifully and I am very impressed with the design changes! From being able to replace individual parts to the little tab on the net to aid in emptying, it is well thought out. I am also quite impressed with ProTuff's customer service. They replaced both my original, and its replacement, quickly and without question - extraordinary. I was fully prepared to send the old one back, or at least a photo, but no. ProTuff's lifetime warranty is exactly as advertised, as is the quality of the product. Just so you are aware, it was the netting that failed in both the original net and it's replacement, so I was particularly glad to see that it can now be replaced without discarding the whole tool. So many items these days end up in a landfill simply because they are not designed to be repaired. Kudos to ProTuff for that! I also have one of ProTuff's poles to use with my net and ProTuff brush. How I managed with the locking mechanism on other telescoping poles, I'm not sure. The old compression style joint was truly frustrating. To sum up, my ProTuff products purchase was money well spent. I wouldn't buy any other, nor would I recommend any other to those in the market for this equipment.

I purchased two of these... One for myself and one as a gift... With the hope of not having to consistently replace my skimmer net. The other ones sold on Amazon just do not hold up more than one season if I'm lucky. I'm almost one season in now with the Tuff Products net and it's just like brand new. And I also have the confidence that if anything actually ever did happen, that their lifetime warranty will hold true. Good job guys... Solid product!

I have been very pleased with this net. It is strong, the shape cleans our koi pond very well and the mesh size is perfect for cleaning out the algae and sludge from the bottom. It also empties out far easier than I expected. A GREAT product. I use it a lot and it has made a big difference in our pond.

Best pool rake I have owned so far! Very sturdy! Worth the $$
