Bruce Lee: Mandarin Superstar

The Boss
This book charts the life of Bruce Lee from 1969 through 1971. It starts as Bruce tries to revive his acting career in the US after the disappointing cancellation of “The Green Hornet” tv series and progresses through his efforts to get his movie project “The Silent Flute” off the ground. The book then charts his return to Hong Kong, filming of “The Big Boss” and his thrust into stardom. This is a wonderful book and a thoroughly researched labour of love from highly regarded Bruce Lee historians Steve Kerridge and Darren Chua. It is packed full of fascinating facts, anecdotes and insights. It has loads of photographs and is a pleasure to read from cover to cover or to simply dip into. The book is a softcover edition of the previous, limited edition hardback. Whilst it loses a bit in transition with regard to paper/print quality, it is nevertheless a very desirable book and essential purchase for any Bruce Lee fan. This softback version has also apparently got extra content to the hardback original. The book’s wealth of factual content and photographs justify the £50 price tag. At £22 (March 2022), buying it is an absolute no-brainer. It’s also worth noting that this book is from an independent publisher and is likely to be a limited print run.My advice: Grab it while you can… then purchase the equally stellar “Intercepting Fist”: Kerridge and Chua’s follow up book focusing on 1971 to 1972 and Bruce’s follow up movie “Fist of Fury”.

I'm still amazed just how many photos are available of a man who lived a short life.
The photographs while good lacked variety and the text is on the small side, but I'm impressed at just how much material has become available over the years and this book is further proof of that.
