I needed a thermometer like this for various diagnostic uses outside of the kitchen. I also leave it in my center console in my truck. My truck has a thermostat for the AC/Heater and outside temperature but does not have a thermometer inside. So I just take the measurement off of the protective sleeve to get me into the ballpark. I have sensitive equipment in my vehicle that has limitations on temperature.I use more expensive units in industrial settings and though this style is not as easy to read as a digital one, nor are they as fast, they dont have dead batteries when I need to use one.I did calibrate this one twice. The first time I calibrated it, I calibrated it to a different thermometer. I found I still had to do the ice and water trick as the first thermometer wasnt that accurate.I left it sit on the table after calibrating it and it was close to the other thermometers, my oral body temperature was off about 1° so I think for a bimetal thermometer in its price range. It's worth the cost. I wish I would have bought the 2 pack instead.I did manage to damage the wrench part of its' sleeve trying to calibrate it. It still works however. With the size of the dial its hard to turn.I checked my house and vehicle AC readings via vents and it took less than a minute to stabilize in the vehicle and took about 2 minutes in the house. Which is right on par with this type of device. Even my Tru-Temp ones at work that cost over one hundred US are still pretty slow.This should work for anything my expensive FLIR wont measure like the water temp in cattle water tanks in the dead of winter.

I am a mechanical contractor. That is I work in commercial refrigeration & air conditioning. I have used this type of thermometer for years, than switch to the new digital battery operated model to become modern. Every time I attempted to use my modern battery operated thermometer, the battery was dead or some other malfunction. This model is tried & true. No batteries to prevent a reading or stop your work in its tracks. The gauge is adjustable. Just insert into a glass of ice water, stir, read 32 degrees or adjust. Very simple to calibrate. Sometime old school is best!

This is the same quality I remember from 10 years ago. Easy to calibrate, seems to measure accurately. Inexpensive enough if you are rough on it, it is not a huge loss. I have trusted this brand for a long time and they haven't disappointed me.

works great, have to calibrate it probably because of shipping but is accurate and does what it is supposed to do
