For something built so well, then it fails so badly.

I am still working this out, so this may be revised. Some sage advice, DON'T READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. Set your phone up so that as you work to install the lock you can watch the related video its far more informative and will probably save you a lot of grief! I have two of these locks, this is my third electronic lock replacement as they only last about 3-3 years here in Wisconsin. These by far are the best built and weigh in at twice what the competition has on the market. That said if you are putting one to secure an entry door the fingerprint scanner will only work if the door has a northern exposure. Don't even bother to put fingerprints in if the door faces South, East, or West. The reason has to do with the sun and the scanners mode of operation. When the doorknob is 110 Deg+ from sun exposure it's going to be a bit difficult for the scanner to read a 98.7-degree thumbprint! The other features work well except the keypad being on the face of the outside knob makes it a little awkward to use. The knob talks to let you know if it is locked, unlocked, or if whatever you pushed in as a code failed. There is no way to adjust this volume and you can forget hearing the voice if you are up in years like I am, a stethoscope would probably solve the problem. Installation, DON'T INSTALL THIS UNLESS YOU CAN DO SO WITH THE APP. Failure to do that will just be a plethora of aggravation for you, especially if you need to reset a lock to the factory default out of box configuration. That said the installation is sort of straightforward excluding some of the fussy nuances like lining things up. I was going to return one of these as it was refusing to reset to factory default. Well once I got that resolved, now the lock is eating batteries like nobody's business. Put a set in, in the morning, dead in 4-6 hours! I am trouble shooting the problem as I am not convinced it is the lock. The one it replaces of a different brand had the same issue, so I am wondering if it is a problem with the metal door and door frame, like external voltage gremlins are getting into it. The one I have installed on a wooden door in a wooden door frame is working just fine. The customer service is in China, so that is a bit of a problem, language barriers etc. Once installed you can see the signal which will be weak, and the gateway does not help with that, so I don't know why that is. The other problem is with the button on the inside knob at the 12 o'clock position. DO NOT PRESS THAT BUTTON WHILE TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR AND EXIT THE BUILDING! Its there so that you can block anyone but the administrator from opening the door from the outside. Does not matter if they have a thumbprint, IC Card, or a passcode. The only way to open the lock from the outside if that button is pressed and the secure lock feature is turned on. Which you will not know as the voice inside the knob that tells you that is too difficult to hear. With secure lock enabled the only way to get the door open from the outside is with a key, or from an administrators account, or using the administrator passcode. The feature is necessary to secure the entry if you are inside and like, um, not wearing any clothes! Or 10 up 10 down 2 going round and round in the bedroom! And you want to keep those folks you trust with a key, but don't want them seeing anything they may not be able to unsee to easy! Personally, I think they need to do away with that button altogether and let it be enabled from the administrator's app.Excluding the clunky installation, limitations with the fingerprint scanner, and the oddball oddities that I am having with the one knob installed on a metal door. These things are tough, very well built, and will probably outlast by at least a year or two what I had been using. I love the fact you can remotely unlock the door for somebody even if you are halfway around the world! It's also great for people when they come over and you are in another room. However, I doubt the caller will be able to hear, "Door is Unlocked," as the knob announces that to the person on the outside. Might work in a quiet inside hallway like in a luxury apartment building, but add wind, airplanes, traffic, and forget it! Like I said I am really surprised that these problems exist with something so well made, and I am not going to dismiss that I have probably not done something correctly. Also, even with Lithium batteries you are only going to get about 3 months use if the lock is in a heavy traffic area. Oh, finally, I am still trying to sort out the feature that lets you turn the lock off, have it knob unlocked for those times you have a barbecue and there are folks needing to enter and leave the house to get sodas, beer, food, use the facilities, etc. This thing is a real pain in the backside in those situations.

Great for a regular door knob...

I like the door lock but i hate that I have to stand within 1 ft to lock or unlock with the app. I bought a gateway but it keeps saying bluetooth not working. So having this lock ive rarely used it as a lock. When i first got this lock it locked me out of my house for 4 hours and not even the key would unlock it. I was told by customer ssrvice that the gateway doesnt work and to get a different one and so I did and guess what. it doesnt remote lock or unlock. ive wasted time and money and just want to feel safe. im hoping an update comes out to fix these issues.

Not bad. It's grown on me the more I've used it

We have this on our bedroom door. We have 5 (soon to be 6) children. Our current youngest two learned to unlock our first knob (which did lock, but it was just the slat that you could a fingernail just right to open). The 4 year old was suddenly just opening the door whenever he felt like it.So at first, we tried a knob that took a key to unlock. As a very pregnant SAHM it was a huge hassle to make it to our bedroom door (to use the bathroom), only to remember it was locked, then have to walk back to the front door to grab the keys. After about a week of that, I knew I wanted a fingerprint/code/fancy lock. My husband did the research and bought this one.To be honest, I hate the look of it haha. It doesn't match the rest of the door knobs and it isn't pretty. But it does the job. Originally, it felt tough to open. I got used to that. The fingerprint reader is more sensitive than my phone fingerprint reader (a newer Samsung). I'm disappointed that this knob either had a silent opening or one that speaks and says (something like) "fingerprint has been approved/denied", like I have time or the quiet to listen for that. The silent opening is actually easier, as it makes a loud, long whirring noise when it's successful. A simple ding (two different ones, like for access granted/denied) would have been much better, but at this point in time, it isn't a deal breaker. We haven't played with all the features yet, so I may come back to update.I plan to get another of these for the kids' bathroom, and just give the older 3 (only ones potty trained) and my husband and myself access, and give common guests access as well.Would probably recommend.

Great lock.

Excellent customer service from this company, the lock is easy to install and it makes it easier than using a key.
