The Mahabharata: A Modern Rendering, Vol 2

A pacy retelling of the war at the crack of the ages
An excellent version of the epic. The Mahabharata is retold expertly by Menon in gripping prose that rivals the very best fantasy novel. Condensing the Mahabharata into 2 volumes without losing it's true essence is no mean feat. The battle scenes themselves, which accounts for a majority of Volume 2, have great cadence with Bheeshma's death, Abhimanyu's sacrifice, the story of Arjuna's revenge on Jayadratha, and Karna's final hours all making for unforgettable moments. Sometimes the writing can get repetitive when describing the general melee of battle and the final few chapters linger longer than they should, but all that is forgiven in the face of the sheer scope of the greatest epic known to man.

The author has written very well and his story telling skills are absolutely riveting
I required this book for a class of the Mahabharata that I am currently enrolled in and it was recommended by our teacher. And it truly lives up to the expectations he gave us.

Don't miss this one!
OMG, Literally! Ramesh Menon makes me feel that I am there with the characters. He makes the story come alive in a compelling way. A page turner, I could not put it down. It invites reading over and over because it is so enjoyable. This one is broken into two more manageable parts, which makes my Kindle very happy.

Reading this book has been a rare privilege. The storytelling is masterful. The Game of Thrones books and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy pale in comparison...Yes, it is that good!! I am completely absorbed and fully transported to a time out of mind that I feel myself witnessing the great War. The real treasure of course is the eternal teachings revealed within the story. The Mahabharata is inspiring and transformative. I am grateful to the author for this work of art.

I attempted to read the Mahabharata in a couple other translations and just couldn't. I can't speak to how authentic or close to the original this translation is. However, I did find it to be an enjoyable read.

Captivating writing and Amazingly Lucid - Unputdownable
Having read various versions of Mahabharat from childhood, i came across Ramesh Menon's Modern Rendering through some excerpts in the erstwhile Tehelka Tabloid. From that time i wanted to read it. I got the kindle version and read it non-stop after work hours. It is so well-written, captivating, easy-flowing, detailed and simply superb. I thank Mr.Menon for his excellent work and i am glad i spent the money on this book. 5 Stars- no doubt

Fantastic
The narration is very lucid. The English is at par. It does tell you many inside stories not found in many other books of such types. Would be helpful if in this book also appendix is attached at end of each chapter just as in volume 1. It’s difficult to go back every time to read appendix in kindle. Thank you.
