I was shocked when I saw the wealth of knowledge this book contains. It is truly invaluable and anyone interested in Ayurveda should definitely read this boo. It really is an unbelievable book that really ties together the other aspects of ayurveda. In and of itself it is a masterpiece in blending different healing modalities!

I like the way the book is laid out
I gained a lot of wisdom reading this book that I can apply, not only to my work, but also to myself. It deepened my knowledge of Vedic teachings and explained many things that I'd learned in other training. I like the way the book is laid out.

An excellent guide if you're working with people requiring assistance. It is a holistic approach that is highly informative.
Provides an excellent background to Vedic or Indian astrology, and compares informatively with other systems. A useful guide if you're interested in the subject, well worth the read.

Superficial, not really useful for any serious counselling, would not recomend it
It is titled Vedic counseling, but there is not one direct quote or verses, or shlokas from the Vedas. There are no real examples of how to counsel based on the Vedas. There are lot of generic suggestion on how you should lead a sattivc life, generic suggestions on mediation but no specifics. Many of the suggestions are available in any book of spiritual counseling, not specific to Vedas. There is a whole chapter on "Necessary qualities of a good Counselor", which can be found in any book on counseling. Then there are statements which there are no references or justification for and there is nothing Vedic in the suggestions. Example, on Dealing with Addictions this is stated "All addiction reflect a lack of control of the mind that may rest upon poor education, difficult upbringing or trauma". That is a very sweeping statement. Then there is suggestions to use Vedic astrology and deal with it in a couple of paragraphs. Vedic astrology is not something can be discussed in 3 small paragraphs. There is a lot of references to Ayurveda but again very little specifics. If you know nothing about Veda this may be a little bit of an introduction. However if you really want to use the Veda's for counseling, there is nothing you will get from it. At least I do not get anything about it. I find the book to have many concepts explained a very generic level.

Vedic wisdom in applied counselling
The book beautifully and exhaustively lays out the Vedic wisdom of Yoga, Ayurveda and the science of Upanishads in application. Dr David Frawley is a living Rishi of our times and his knowledge is invaluable asset for Yoga aspirants and teachers. The principles presented here can be applied in self-counselling as well as counselling clients, patients and students of Yoga teachers and counselors. It covers the aspects of living according to your dharma, the four great goals of life - dharma, artha, kama and moksha, vedic counselling, vedic astrology and vastu, vedic laws of right living and more. It forms a connection between Vedic and western/modern form of counselling and can be greatly beneficial for anyone in the field of counselling or looking to understand self in a holistic way.

Excllent book
Very good book, discusses the integration of karma, Ayurvedic concepts, and Eastern methods to explore psychological health. Very good for both professional counsellors and spiritual people interested in looking at their self and others from a different perspective.
