Sena SPH10 Outdoor Sports Bluetooth Stereo Headset/Intercom, Black

Using this for business within a very noisy environment. These work absolutely perfectly for setting up a private conference between like headsets. We have tried many solutions, FRS radio... etc. These are the winners. Upgraded to the latest firmware, 4.2, easy as pie. The rubber covers that protect the various connections to the headset actually work. They stay closed when closed and have a tight fitting. The sound quality is great. So far very impressed. We will see about durability and I will update this review over time. Clearly a very well made and solid product. ---------------- Update 7 May 2013 Stole a pair from the office to use on my sailboat this past weekend. We use them to communicate between myself and my wife when we are coming into dock, a fairly large boat. In the past we used a product called "marriage savers" designed for boating and the 24G FRS based full duplex head sets. I have always been a huge advocate of headsets on pleasure boats for communication between crew members when picking up mooring balls or docking. It saves on the screaming factor:) While my two previous sets were okay, we had continual issues with interference with other RF transmitters in the area. This bluetooth solution is MUCH better. We loved them and so I just ordered two for the boat. They pair really fast and the voice quality is unmatched. They seemed very stout and should do fine in a marine environment. --------------- Update 17 March 2014 After a full season of use, still going strong. I have yet to find an issue with these headsets. One hint is to write your own quick start guide for use and keep it handy. The three buttons you need to always remember (there are a lot of buttons) is the Jog Dial button, Jog button, and the Phone button. The names make no sense but are important. For simple use case: 1. Turn on - hold Jog Dial Button and Phone button on simultaneously announces with "Hello" LED flashes Orange then flashes blue slow 2. To Pair - On each set, hold the Jog dial button on until it announces "intercom pairing" (LED flashing Orange fast) - On one set momentarily (1-2 seconds) hold down the Jog Dial button then release, (wait 2-4 seconds) once paired they will each beep twice and LED flashes two quick blue twice then pause, then repeats with two quick blue flashes then pause, repeat 3. Turn off - hold Jog Dial Button and Phone button on simultaneously, announces with "good bye" ----------------------------------------------- March 16, 2015 I bought two pairs of these for our boat. We have been using them solid for two years on the boat and they still work great. For docking and laying anchor out they have been a huge benefit to us for communicating over the length of the boat together, 45 feet. . We have been in some nasty weather while using these and I am concerned that the level of water resistance is not good enough but so far not a problem. Sometimes we forget to turn one of them off and the battery dies so we fall back to the shouting methodology on those few occasions, it just makes us even more appreciative of their functionality. These do get dropped and kicked and very abused on the boat but they just keep ticking, amazing! The newer headbands are really much better than the ones I had originally bought for the company.

Researched the sena SPH-10 on line before buying. Have used our scala team set half helmet set over three years making it able to Compare the team set against the SPH-10. The sound is fuller and richer with much less wind noise.We here in NH do not have to wear helmits. So we the wife and I wanted communications between bikes we could wear without helmits. Got a great deal on line for both SPH-10 ,just over $300 including shipping. Arrive quickly just in time for a week end trip over 500 miles. Set up was a snap, pairing with cell phone and GPs was quick. Bike to bike communication is great, sound is awesome ,phone calls are outstanding even at 70MPH. All in all with over 1000 miles on the head sets even in a surprise heavy rain storm ! They have performed flawless with battery life lasting the entire ride. To date the longest steady use has been just shy of 7 hours without a problem.We have the sena for no helmit riding , scala team set for our half helmits and Nolan full face with Nolan com systems in full stero for cold weather.The only problem so far is after extended wear they tend to hurt the ears a bit from the weight . Miner adjustment and you are good to go another few hundred miles .wish they came with chargers instead of just a USB charging cord .leaving you to come up with a charger. Would have been nice if they said that in the add with what comes in the box

This headset in my opinion is one of the best ones on the market. It does everything you want it to do and more. Unfortunately the design is flawed. I really wanted to be able to give it a 5 star rating. If you want something with advanced technology it doesn't get any better than this for the price. I could ride it on my motorcycle in town and the people I was on the phone with couldn't hear my engine or wind noise. Try doing that with a typical Bluetooth headset! I really liked this headset! Unfortunately the spot where it curves down over your ears has a design flaw. There is a section where the plastic is very weak. You can see where there is a space for them to route the wires that go to the speaker to each earpiece. In that section the plastic is small and it will crack. The headset is rated for outdoor use and the ads have images of people doing activities such as hiking etc. I used the first one just for voice recognition/dictation, gaming and listening to music. One of the awesome features it has is a long boom that filters out noise so it is great for voice recognition/dictation or gaming even if you are in loud environments. It was NOT used for strenuous activity, yet after using it for some time, the spot I mentioned that goes over our ears broke. The headset then would not fit unless I duck taped it or something. I called and explained that the headset has a design flaw and asked if there was a version that had different material or had been updated. They replied no but stated they could warranty it or give me a refund. I was torn because I really liked the headset but the design was still flawed. I decided to give them another shot and tried to convince myself that the one I had received was defective. So I sent them the broken one back and received another one promptly. Long story short, the second one I was very careful to not torque and was gentle with. I did use it once on my motorcycle since that was the purpose of it. (Sena makes this and another version for motorcycle helmets which if you are researching this headset you probably already know.) Unfortunately a few months later the plastic by the speakers began to crack and crumble off. Since the headset had already been replaced once I ran into some issues...... Unfortunately the design has not been updated to better material where the plastic is weak. I really liked the headset but if it has a design flaw you will eventually end up with it breaking. There have been many people who have had the same complaints yet nothing has been done to correct the issue. I can't complain as to the technology this headset employs, but I can not recommend something that has a design flaw and will eventually break on you in an unreasonably short time.

The product worked great when it come to hearing the other riders, however they hear a lot of wind noise from my end. I ride with a half helmet so I’m sure that’s expected! Great quality!

This thing is surprisingly awesome. Yes its super uncomfortable when wearing eyewear and looks goofy, but has some amazing features and gimmicks. Im currently using it for work. Im a trucker, but also ride bikes, and this headset has some awesome features that premium trucker noise canceling headsets lack.... like side tone and the ability to connect to third party 2 way radios for outdoor adventures. The Bluetooth call quality (cellphone) is pretty good... i mean it sounds like AM radio and a bit low-fi but i can have a clear conversation in my truck, which is super loud. I run a Coronado semi truck with straight pipes that are placed right outside my cabin door. Its insanely loud and rowdy. It has some features that i did not know i even needed, like side tone and Gopro mic feed for "motovlogs", which are nice to have i guess. Stereo audio quality is meh. Its good enough to listen to podcasts, audiobooks, conversations, but obviously not that good for music, but thats expected since they are radio headsets. However, the feature is there if u want to jam out. The battery life is long. I got over 10hrs right out of the box while listening to podcasts and had about 15 short business calls throughout the day. Im mostly using it with Bluetooth cellphone connection which works great. However the physical buttons are kind of janky when using a phone. The knob and button works well, especially when using gloves, but they dont work too well for controlling phone calls or phone audio for some reason and adds a lot of bulk. I really want to get a set of their low profile "outdoor sport" models, but they use Sena mesh intercom connections, which is different than these. If these headsets where redesigned with the same aesthetics as the mesh intercom low profile models, theyd be perfect. Unfortunately, they are very uncomfortable with eyewear. They also warm up my ears as if im wearing ear muffs... something to think about if using in the summer.

Non-adjustable, earpiece hurts, feels flimsy and cheap - was expecting a more "premium" product from sena but oh well. I thought maybe the back band would expand or retract but it doesn't. Would have been nice to be able to shrink it down for a better fit. Really should have softer padding around the tops of the ears, it's going to chafe that area if you move around a lot. Connects fine to other sena modules (I have a couple 10S's and it intercom connects no problem). Bought this for driving since the 10S usually plugs into a helmet or earmuffs and I don't think driving around with earmuffs is very smart. Unsure about how long this will last unless I am very careful with it. Also the controls are on the left side of the head, which is the opposite of the 10S. Probably fine for crane work but I think sena could have done a little better on comfort here. Charging cable ends in USB (USB c to the square/rectangular style, no wall adapter included - why?). 3 stars because it all works, but I would have paid a little more for something that looks/feels like it won't break from regular use.

Update 3-10-19. As you can see I have used these for years. One unit just became flakey after 4 years of near daily SWEATY use in Florida and Texas. I just ordered 2 more (1 spare). Other reviews point out the plastic is weak on the shank near the head set. That's true. I wish Sena would improve this, BUT the shank is narrow there so as to miss your helmet and the side of your head. No pressure points. Trade off. I snapped one Sena a couple years ago by "peeling" the unit off my head one handed. If you ALWAYS use 2 hands and lift the unit off each ear as designed, it does not break. Also, I've tried the newer Cee Coach and didn't like it. If you use a wired head set the wire is there to contend with. Wireless headsets with the Fee Coach require charge 4 units at the end of each use...plus "pairing" of all the devices. The Sena is not as contemporary looking as the Cee Coach, but it's WAY LESS hassle. it is self contained. I want to get on my horse, press the button and get to work. I still recommend Sena and I'm ALWAYS an early adopter. Sena is the best I've found through the years Update 5-25-15: I just tried the "Expand-01" It's a better looking updated model of the SPH-10. Don't buy the Expand. Stick with the SPH-10. One reason...wind noise. The Expand is surprisingly sensitive to wind noise. On an 8-10 mph wind speed day, neither my trainer nor I were able to hear each other 1/2 the time. We switched right back to the SPH-10 model and the problem disappeared. Original review: I'm partially hearing impaired and ride horses taking lessons from a trainer. I wear one of these. The trainer (on the ground or on a horse wears a second pair.) Lessons were difficult without this device as I couldn't hear the trainer's timely coaching. Problem solved. This unit is self contained, easy to use and comfortable. The pads sit on the ear (not in) so you can still hear what is around you. I put it on, then put on my helmet & leave tx/rx on full time. (The trainer doesn't need to hear me, so she turns down her volume control) It will work in nearly any (reasonable) environment I can think of except for FULL helmets (horse, motorcycle etc). The "brother" to this device is the SPH10H-01. The photo shows it works with half helmets and it would, but it's more trouble than this model. The velcro at the top doesn't attach well to my equestrian helmet. There is a wire between the 2 ear pieces which makes set up more difficult. I returned it and bot a 2nd SPH 10-10. I like this SPH10-10 so much, I've both a blue tooth transmitter for my TV audio. I'll wear the sena on the horse, then use it for listening to TV. The sena unit will also blue tooth to your phone/Ipod. Other options too. Set up sounds hard. It's not. Take a few minutes to read the manual. Sena has made it as easy to use as Amazon's and Apple's sites!! Few companies do.

Over the past 13 years I have tried numerous different systems to get my music and comms into my helmet. I have used them all, ICom, J&M, Factory installed models, other Sena headsets etc. They all have their pros and cons . . . But this thing has more pros and very few, if any cons. First about me - I have tinnitus in both ears and have hearing loss as well. Most other systems just don't get loud enough for me to hear everything crystal clear. I ride with a half helmet, so my factory headsets and J&M Headsets sit off in pockets on the helmet allowing wind noise to sometimes drown out the sounds of music or passenger comms. This sits right on my ears, and with my face mask over it (I wear in all seasons as it is moisture wicking and provides UV protection) it doesn't move. The sound is amazing. My music is loud, so loud I have to keep it turned down - something I never have had to do with other systems. I have yet to use it as an intercom, but have the Sena SR-10 that should be integrating this to my factory installed system. I generally don't use my cell phone for calls when riding, but have made calls with this while stopped at gas stations and have slow rolled with it as some of those calls have gone a little longer than I anticipated. The call volume is great - I believe I could make a call with my half helmet at highway speeds and easily be able to hear. With the mic tucked inside my face mask I am sure I would be clearly heard on the other end.

This is a great product we use it on our boat the wife is happy now iam not yelling at her and the clarity is great, i also linked it to my phone and can take calls and listen to pod cast with it would highly recommend this

I bought two sets of these just over a year ago and have used them for hunting to communicate between driver and shooter when using a pick-up truck with the shooter in the back and also for communicating between two walking shooters. They have been excellent - they have worked with superb clarity out to over 700m over open ground using the intercom and that is usually at a whisper due to the nature of the hunting. The ability to communicate under these circumstances is invaluable. Once paired I usually switch them to standby so there is no background noise at all then a simple tap of the jog button on either headset reconnects the intercom function instantly They also work well for Bluetooth connectivity with my phone when driving. Voice communication is very clear and precise. They have handled light rain many times with no issues. They are quite light and comfortable though the first couple of times wearing them for several hours caused slight discomfort where the over-the-ear support rests behind the ear. The negatives.......several users report having broken the `headband` - I have managed to keep mine intact but handle them a little more carefully than I would like to. A metal band within this `headband` would be a good improvement. For listening to music they are quite good but not up there with the modern quality headphones (Bose etc.) in terms of sound quality and in particular bass response but then they are designed for a different purpose primarily. No doubt great hi-fi reproduction would necessitate a heavier, larger unit. Overall, considering I bought them mainly for the long range intercom feature, I rate them very highly. They are not cheap but I actually think them great value for money considering the benefits they give.
