BLACK + BLUMEC003 Personal Carafe with Charcoal Filter, 800ml

I bought the large size of this bottle many years ago and it’s still going strong. It’s a great product. This on the other hand is not the same quality at all. When it arrived I was disappointed but thought I’d give it a go; The glass is not even half as thick as my other Black and Blum bottle, the design is kind of top heavy and can tip easily, the bigger bottle is like this but it’s sturdy and so this doens’t happen and if it did the glass is thick and you would have to drop it from a great height for it to break. My partner saw this new little bottle and said ‘that’s not going to last.’ It’s like the cheap thin glass you’d buy budget in a cheap supermarket. My partner expected it to break every time they washed it up or said it would knock over easily and if it just did that on a counter top it would be enough to break it. In the end the glass beaker broke a week or so ago as the whole thing is so light weight than when I someone opened the fridge door where I stored it the whole thing came flying out. This never happed with the other bottle which I store in the same place. If you knocked this over at night on your night stand it would have no chance. It could be quite hazardous in the dark and so before it broke I already decided not to take the chance of having it on my bed stand. So disappointed. Really wanted to like this as it seems like such a good idea and the cork place mat is nice. I’ve now got a caraf with no glass beaker. Don’t know what I’ll do with it as it’s not fit for purpose.

After 16 hours the stick is still floating with 10 ml above the water. I poured a glass and the smell of East Anglian Chlorine is still there.2 days later still floating and chlorine smell still there. Contacted Black + Blum but no replyHaving boiled the stick I managed to get this to work. Every it every day since. Today I was just a bit careless when pouring water and letting the charcoal go back into the jar and the charcoal smashed though the bottom of the jar. Not strong enough for normal use.

Buy the charcoal sticks and use a decent bottle or jug and your own glass. The glass the manufacturer uses is too fragile and I walked away leaving an intact glass and returned 5 mins later to find the glass cracked - Luckily it was empty- difficult flagon shape to clean too - a fuss you just don’t need. The charcoal definitely improves water flavour.

The carafe is very elegant and the charcoal imptovescthe taste ofondon water. The glass is very delicate so can't comment on durability. It looks great!
