The right shifter did not come with a barrel adjuster. Missing something? Most rear derailleurs come with the adjustment at the rear end, you need to adjust on the front end at the left shifter. OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
These shifters came stock on my Trek X-Caliber cycle. I've traveled over 12,000 miles on the same set of shifters workout a single problem. In this time, I've virtually upgraded every single part on this bike minus the handlebars, due to wear and tear. These shifters have NEVER failed. Recently, a shifter cable broke, which is just a part of general maintenance, and has nothing to do with the shifter, and I decided to replace them because the windows in which you view the gear was becoming cloudy due to sun and sweat. Every part I've replaced on this bike I've upgraded to better parts, but these shifters are so good, that I've replaced them using the original. This is an excellent example that cycling is not always about how much you spend. These are for serious riders.

simple to install and made my old bike like new again.
I ride a 15 year old trek navigator, a twist shift, 24 speeds. on a whim I bought a second bike, a specialized comfort bike with 7 speeds...no front derailleur with a trigger shift and with the flaired hand grips. I have arthritis in my hands and the flaired grip helps spread the pressure more widely. you can't modify the trek grips due to the twist shifters, therefore this shimano product. while I haven't been able to test this shift/brake combination long enough to evaluate it on the road, I can say that the installation is a breeze--the bigger issue for me was replacing all the cables, which isn't hard, but you need to organize the cables, housing, ferrules, end crimps etc. I removed all the cables/housings, took them to my local bike store where they cut everything to fit. I work slowly, so it took an afternoon. I was nervous that the new shifters would mess up the gears, but not so. It works great. in the end it makes the project time and money well spent.

They work great, and are very accurate once you get the ...
I bought these to replace a 7 speed shifter that I had -- I was rebuilding the entire drivetrain, and needed new rims too. I figured I would toss the old freewheel and move up to an 8-speed cassette which required new shifters. They work great, and are very accurate once you get the deraileur set... I have had very positive shifting with zero misses... I would recommend. One thing though, these don't come with the brake cables, but mine came with shifter cables... If your replacing things, it's probably best to replace the brake cable when you have everything apart anyway... good insurance.

Shimano quality, economy price.
If you're trying to keep an 8 speed equipped bike on the road for a while longer, this is a great item! They are nicer than what came on most of the old 3x8 equipped bikes. Brake cables are easy to swap over as well, don't need to take anything apart.

2 thumbs up and 2 tires on the trails
same as OEM on my wifes bike. crisp shifting and excellent braking. bought these when i did an upgrade to disc brakes on her 06 gary fisher advance. does include gear cables but not brake cables. not a big deal as brake cables are cheap at the bike shop.

They seem to work well!
Installed on a mountain bike to replace the Shimano original equipment; fairly easy to install. Only problem is the gear shift readouts for the rear cassette are in reverse order, if that's changeable, I have no clue how to change it.

Not too extreme and not too cheap.
Great upgrade for my aging Shimano gear on my 16 year old Gary Fisher hard tail. Easy to install and plenty of cable length to fit a variety of setups! I paired these with a front and rear Altus derailleur. They seem fairly durable, although I haven't had them long enough to give them a proper test.
