Q: What is the difference between the j66 and m66 chains?

Hello, Joseph. Thank you for your interest in the Oregon® brand. There are actually 2 min differences between the J66 and M66 chains. The first being that J66 chain is a standard kerf chain and the M66 chain is a narrow kerf chain. That alone means that they are not interchangeable. A narrow kerf chain is narrower than a standard chain and has to be used with a narrow kerf bar. The other main difference is that the J66 chain is a .058"-gauge chain and the M66 is a .050"-gauge chain.
