Making Words Third Grade: 70 Hands-On Lessons for Teaching Prefixes, Suffixes, and Homophones

Why are these books so expensive?
So, I've bought these books for my now 4th and 10th graders. I have found them helpful in teaching children how to spell a word they are not totally familiar with but if they know how to spell another word that has a similar root, then it it's easy. I am very annoyed now that I am looking to buy the higher grades, the books are astronomical in price! Who needs to pay that amount? $150 - $175. That's great for a classroom/school but not if you are doing enrichment work or homeschool.

Great starting point
I tutor several 3rd grade students after school. I use this book to prepare my lessons. The students enjoy the lessons. I have seen an increase in their understanding of word parts. They are able to see how knowing parts of a word can help them read other words. It seems to be really clicking for them. I gave it 4 stars because I do take the lessons from this book and make further activities to do with the kids. It is an excellent starting point.

Great resource
Great way of working with words. Everything is all laid out. I bought it to work with my son during the summer.

Planning To Learn
The authors have taken the work out of lesson plans for vocabulary building and spelling. Home schoolers especially should find the book a real time-saver in preparation with lots of drills for one-on-one sessions with your young pupil.

Great Books
These books are fantastic! My students loved doing the making words activities. I have these for several different grade levels and my students have always found them engaging. I especially love the transfer of knowledge to other materials they are reading.
