So, it's been a few months and things are actually quite good with this bag. Although it wasn't put to use for what I bought it for it has been used a lot. Since I had my doubts and the size was off I considered it to be canon fodder. Instead of carrying my laptop and documents it has been in with my field gear carrying all kinds of things. I have not been treating it gently and all in all, it has broken in rather nicely. I can say now that it must be real leather because P/U wouldn't have survived the same things and wouldn't have gotten the same start to a patina like this. This bag has grown on me and at the least earned my respect. It has been through a lot including full submersion when I hit the drink doing a survey of a lake. It dried nicely and came back to life with some olive oil. The liner did pick up a tinge of color from the lake water but it kind of goes with the whole scheme. I probably still wouldn't buy another but only based on the size now and not doubts about its durability or materials. It's a robust bag and breaks in very nice. The only thing I'd change if I were the manufacturer is to put more holes for the buckles, especially on the shoulder strap, and I'd find a better way to keep the padded cover that slides over the strap buckle secured in that position. Otherwise, I am satisfied and slightly impressed at what this bag became.Well friends, I am not so sure about this one. I will have to use it a bit and see how things go. Initially, I doubt the authenticity of the claim that it is real leather. If it is, it is the thinnest layer of leather on canvas I have seen. It feels cheap and brittle. I have been looking at it, putting it down and coming back to it to look again several times. My BS meter is tripped, but it is close. Mine doesn't smell like tanned leather, nor feel like it, and has the overall feel of PU / Vegan leather. It seems plastic-ish. It is also not that big and the straps are pretty short. For a 6'5" 240 lb. guy like myself, it feels like a Barbie bag. I did not have the highest hopes ordering it, so I am not too disappointed. I thought at the least I could be the lab rat for others who might be tempted. In its defense, if not looking at the leather quality, the rest of it seems to be well made. Stitching could use a thicker thread, but it is consistent in pattern and doesn't wobble on the sewing line. Everything is cut sharp and assembled tight. Buckles and clasps are mid to low grade. Time will tell if they hold or crack. Overall, it will do for now, but I am looking for a better one. This may be an acceptable bag for some, for me, I would not buy it again.

Very WELL MADE , HEAVY LEATHER , WELL STITCHED , just not for me. Made for business or school. Made for laptops & books . I bought another version .
