Donnie Darko Limited Edition [4K Ultra-HD] [Blu-ray]

What a Box Set!
I am in love with this! The artwork is just incredible and the quality and texture of the material is to die for. The little book and poster it comes with are amazing, the poster is also double sided, which arguably looks better than the side I got up on my wall right now. The picture quality itself is outstanding, and recently got myself a 4K TV and it's just stunning. Really nice collection and can't recommend it enough, especially if you haven't seen it. The jump from Blu-Ray to 4K is still debateable, and it is by no means a necessity or anything, Blu-Rays still look amazing, so if you already have a copy and don't care for the extra stuff, stick with that. Frank would be disappointed though..

Great Set
Having previously purchased the Blu-ray set, I was somewhat hesitant to upgrade again so soon, especially since Donnie Darko isn't the most visually spectacular film going. However, it's a very good transfer, and the included bonus goodies are a nice touch, especially the little book.

Star rating for the 4k transfer, not the film.
The film is a nailed-on five-star classic for me, and I suspect others will want to know if it's an improvement over blu ray - well, it is. It was never going to transfer to 4k like something filmed in the last five years or so, but it's generally crisper and clearer, though some scenes don't look much different (such as the opening sequence). I could make out what was on Kenneth Monitoff's notepad in a brief scene where he and Karen Pomeroy are seated and exchange the words 'Donnie Darko', which adds to the story. The film is in Dolby Vision, which doesn't enhance colour dynamic range as well as HDR (to my mind), but there's more black depth, and brighter colours shine through, such as the sun through the trees as Donnie cycles, and the emergency vehicles' flashing lights.A worthwhile buy if you absolutely love the film, which is one of the few that rewards repeated views with new angles and insights. Better picture quality adds to that.

Amazon are aware there are problems playing the Theatrical cut on panasonic players the disc stutters and is also very dark I urge people who purchased this return it for a refund. Arrowe video are aware of the problem and have given a very poor responce.

Very disappointing release - faulty Theatrical Cut discs
I pre-ordered this as Donnie Darko is one of my favourite movies. So this is not a 1-star rating for the movie (which is excellent - I love both cuts), but for this poor release. Basically, the Theatrical Cut disc is faulty, it stutters constantly and is unwatchable. Reading online this very common, though it appears to be mostly with only an issue with certain 4K players... but it should not be an issue with any player. Hopefully, Arrow sorts out a disc replacement scheme as reading online people who have returned for replacement just have the exact same issue, as this was a limited run the replacement will likely be from the same faulty batch. Overall, very very dissapointing.

Excellent picture and sound quality and doesn’t seem to have the issues with the disc mentioned by other buyers.
