Fine with specific types of music and equipment
I purchased these headphones to replace the cheap headphones that came with a tabletop AM/FM/SW radio that I purchased in 2001(the old headphones' ear cushions were crumbling). These JVC HAM55X headphones worked great, and were a vast improvement over what I had. While made of plastic, the JVC's are sturdy and well built. I was curious to see if these headphones could produce any meaningful volume level when used with portable music players, such as my iPOD Classic(originally intended for use with tiny earbuds) or my Sony Minidisc portable(originally intended for use with small earphones). To my astonishment, these JVC headphones were highly efficient, and produced powerful, punchy sound, more than loud enough. I have yet to try the JVC's with my Panasonic portable CD player, but I would expect similar good results. I also tried these headphones with my Apple iMAC computer, and got similar excellent results. These are bass-boosted headphones, which will undoubtedly sound great with Dance, disco, hip-hop, techno or reggae music, or with many types of pop music with electronically generated beats. Natural sound was not a design objective, so if you're going to mainly listen to rock, jazz, classical or any other musics with acoustic instruments, you will find the midrange & treble sound to be fairly recessed and insufficient. But, the design decisions that produced these headphones' high efficiency and punchy lows have tradeoffs. The headphones are fitted with a mini-plug, but, of course, you could use an adaptor and plug the HAM55X's into home hifi equipment whose headphone outputs use the full-sized headphone plug. So, I tried these headphones with compact stereo systems by Sony & JVC. These systems feature much more powerful headphone amplification than any of the other products that I tested the HAM55X's with. Alas, use with home Hifi equipment is not this product's forte. With the JVC HX-GD8 system, the bass was muddy, and the midrange much reduced(compared to playback on the portable players). With the Sony LBT-ZX66i system, the bass wasn't muddy, but the midrange was constricted, lacking in detail. & squawky. With E.Q. controls on your home hifi equipment, you may be able to get somewhat better results. For use with home hifi equipment there are headphones that are designed with that use in mind. Those phones will provide more natural, detailed sound, but their lower efficiency would produce weak sound when used with portable music players. Use the HAM55X headphones with the type of equipment and the types of music that they were clearly intended for and you won't go wrong. Amazon & its marketplace sellers offer a good price on the product too.

These are great headphones for the price
These are great headphones for the price. Of course, there are better & more expensive ones. But if you're looking for something in this price range & money is your main concern, these headphones get the job done.To be clear though, the music quality isnt bad. These do a decent job & definitely aren't lacking with the bass. If you're a person who likes to enjoy music with extra bass, these are fine. If you're looking for some with super great music quality/clarity & better balanced, you will probably have to go up with the price. I wouldn't recommend them for producing (because of the equalization & theyre sometimes not the best for hearing details), nor would I recommend if you would be bothered by heavy bass. As the name says, bass is pretty xplosive. They are kinda bulky, but pretty durable. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being most durable), I give them a 7 or 8. Ive gotten a short in the cable a couple of times - so maybe be careful not to yank or jerk them around - but otherwise they are sturdy. They will last if you treat them well.If you just like jamming out with extra bass & aren't too concerned about smaller details & technicalities, these are good headphones. Again, if you're looking for something better, you will probably be looking at spending a few more bucks.

Xtreme boom
This is a great set of cans no lie, if comfort its great the cups are well fitted with with a leathery material and the head band comes with a memory foam for maximum comfort, I wish though the cups were made of a more clothe material because it can get sorta clammy if you take it outside and its hot, its meant more for inside your house or studio, now the sound...it is mad loud the bass is as its advertised Xplosive! Its the kind of bass that make bassheads smile, problem is that the music leaks so everyone can hear what you're listening to, the sound quality is very good but its not as clear as I want it to be, I had a pair of Street by 50 over ear wired and its everything I wanted in terms of clarity and bass, and the jvc sorta lacks in that respect, but all in all its great set of cans for the price! (I bought it for 36 bucks!) has all the boom you want for a fraction of the price of Beats headphones

Such a rattling experience, literally.
I have these plugged into an Audiotechnica AT2020 microphone. And with the boosted volume I can get from the sliders on the mic, these headphones will literally shake your head. They are FLAWLESS for listening to more bass heavy music. So your Rap, Techno, Dubstep, or any Electronica genre's are gonna turn your head into mush. I am a big fan of metal, and these headphones play it perfectly, From symphonic metal to black metal and from folk metal to grunge metal, These headphones will make every part of the song pop, Especially the more brutal parts. I would not recommend these to anyone who enjoys easy listening. As the higher scales will sound quite a bit watery in the face of the overwhelming bass. These are also great for playing any manner of FPS and work well over all. Any explosion in any movie or game will make the headphones rattle on your head. The only cons I can think of is that once you have had them for some time, They begin to feel cheap. Which is unfortunate. They still have lasted me longer than any turtle beach or skullcandy I have owned.

Decepcionante sonido

Probably the most terrible sounding headphones ever made
Probably the most terrible sounding headphones ever made. The veil is real, the mids sounds absolutely horrendous but I only wanted the earpads (this was the only practical way to get them) and didn't care about price.

Worst ever.
These headphones are possibly the worst I've ever listened through.I'm a big fan of the in ear Xtreme Xplosives, so naturally I thought these would be a similar level of quality only bigger and therefore better. No. My £15 bass-less Senheiser 201s sound better than these.I'm aware that XX's need a bit of equalisation to get the most out of them, and with PowerAmp on Android my in ear ones sound incredible, but no amount of sliding equalisers could make these things sound anything other than abysmal on my phone or PC. Out of the box everything is flat, muffled, quiet, generally sounds like you're listening through a fish tank full of soil. Awful. With some tweaking it all still sounds like sh*t.I can only think that there are 2 different batches of these things going around, one that sounds amazing - hence the 5 stars, and one that us poor 1 star suckers are buying. On the plus side they were pretty comfortable.Money back, keep looking.

Does size matter?
These can only be described as a substantial piece of kit. I've just sat and watched 12 Years A Slave with the 'phones' on. They are extremely comfortable and provide a more than acceptable sound quality. Because of their size (they are big!), they fit extremely well around the ears thus providing a pleasant experience. I would be somewhat surprised to see any owner wearing these outside of the comfort of their own home. Most probably, the nearest lookalike in size would be worn by an airside operative marshalling aircraft. These however, have a much-improved design quality to the ear defenders that I refer to. They are of robust construction and should last a fair time under normal use.

Overly bassy, with recessed vocals, but okay once tweaked.
For the price paid (£20.00) I think these JVC headphones are an excellent buy, especially with a little equalizer tweaking which brings out detail and recesses the bass somewhat. They are comfortable and my 14 year old daughter is perfectly happy with them. I prefer headphones with a removable cable, but I can't grumble for £20.00.For a little more money the Superlux HD668B Headphones are better all-rounders with superior sound, and the two different lengths of detachable cable make the Superlux headphones more adaptable. Having written that, there will always be better-sounding headphones out there and for the price and intended use these JVCs are excellent.
