Additionally, there were a couple deep scratches that were very noticeable on the handle and the back of the brush. I purchased this "Hat Brush Solid Wood with Sturdy Bristles" from Smartek to brush dust particles from my hats and also to remove lint from felt hats and from my wool peacoat. The brush is most definitely made of wood, has a rather interesting angle to it and performs admirably. I am glad for having it. If you have a European made hat of rabbit or beaver fur you will separate the fur fibers and thus lose the natural water repellency. A cheaper wool felt hat does not have such water repellency unless chemically treated and even then you disrupt the water repellant barrier!!.
