Dark Entry by M J Trow
A thoroughly enjoyable "read" as I have come to expect from this Author. A good story set at a very interesting time in English History. If I had to find a fault, I would say that I had difficulty in memorising so many characters. Perhaps that is a little "picky" as it is set in and around the University of Cambridge. However, I am looking forward to reading the next Kit Marlowe Mystery and will very readily recommend this book to all lovers of Historic Fiction.P N H.

Original and Imaginative
I came across this series of books by chance and having an interest in the illustrious, yet enigmatic, Christopher (Kit) Marlowe decided to buy the first for my Kindle and I found it compulsive reading as it is so well-written, combining humour with realism and historical facts, though as a novel there is licence for invention as well. My fellow readers and reviewers have covered much of the outline of the story very well, influencing my decision to buy this novel, but I would like to add that I felt that there were certain scenes where Kit Marlowe came across as a Tudor Simon Templar. Suave, cool and intelligent are all attributes he shared with The Saint, along with the ability to solve the crimes correctly, deducing the culprit where I had failed miserably. This, of course, is further testimony to the skill of Mr Trow’s writing and I already have the second Christopher Marlowe Mystery loaded on to my Kindle and reading it is a priority for my leisure time over the next few days.

MJ Fan
I have recently read all the existing Mad Max books and been privileged to receive the first few pages of the forthcoming book, I have also read most of the Lestrade books so there seemed to be a small gap in my life. Kit Marlowe is not a disappointment, M J's poetic style and accurate description of Cambridge had me gripped from the beginning. I know Cambridge well and was able to recognise the Cambridge of the 1580s. I don't pretend to be a history buff but the tales of alchemy and intrigue and description of the 'politics' that probably still exist in the hallowed halls drew me in. MJ has a way of creating an atmosphere that is real and almost tangible. I look forward to reading more.

I am a big fan of Mr Trow and have read and loved his Lestrade series so I thought I would make a start on the Christopher Marlowe series and I have to say that I'm glad I did I was hooked from start to finish. The characters were well written and in such detail that I could picture them clearly in my mind and the plot kept me gripped, if you are a fan of historical mysteries and murder you will love his books but be warned because once you start reading you will be heard pressed to put it down!

Marlowe investigatore

Trow gives us another series to enjoy!
It's Cambridge, 1583, in the early years of the Elizabethan Age. And it's Christopher Marlowe. And it's a historical whodunit. Could there be a more exciting time or a more exciting hero? Possibly, but M.J. Trow has done a convincing job of making us believe so in his first episode of a series set in this period. In "Dark Entry" we are introduced to "Kit" Marlowe and his Corpus Christi College classmates at that august, venerable university. But "something's rotten" (to borrow a phrase of a Marlowe contemporary" on campus--in fact, more than merely "rotten," it's murder most royal and mayhem surely must follow! It does and Trow presents us with the genius that was Marlowe's, who sets out to find why two of his close friends and classmates have been found dead. In addition, another body was found in the River Cam. The coroner has pronounced them as "suicide," "accidental", and "death by drowning," but Marlowe is suspicious. He senses that the three have been murdered and all three deaths are related. He sets out to find the guilty. Along the way he is aided by his two remaining classmate friends and his patron Sir Roger Manwood and the Queen's magus himself, Dr. John Dee. Trow shows a fine hand in developing his characters as the book progresses. Too, the author displays a respectable hand with his research into both the times and the university. Commendable and readable, indeed. Needless to say, Marlowe triumphs (It's a historical murder mystery and they HAVE to be solved, so that comes as no surprise)--not only with finding the murderer but setting himself up for following books. I look forward to reading the remainder (five in all, at the present time).

Meandering Plot
I found this story interesting but found the plot line meandering. There was far too much filler around what was a simple story.
