The Best
The best for a cough, they work. Found a box from 2016, needed them, used them, they still worked, found them on line still made by same company, bought more. Will never be without them.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT !
I have used these "THROAT DISCS" for years! As a public speaker, they have been an essential part of my life. These Throat Discs do not dry out my throat as mint flavored products can do. I find their taste to be excellent (a little like licorice to me). And, since they are small and flat, they stay between my gums and cheek and do not interfere with my speaking. And even if you are not a public speaker, I think you would find these discs helpful for dry for a irritated throat. I would give these Throat Discs more stars if I could!

Helps subdue coughs.
These lozenges work well for my cough although IMO they did change the original ingredients from when my grandmother used them many years ago. If you don’t like black licorice flavor these are not for you.

No longer "Original Formula"
Be aware that the manufacturer, Monticello, has changed the formula for "Original Formula Throat Discs". Indeed, they've taken the words "Original Formula" off of the package. The content list is pretty much the same, however the ingredient order has changed. So the ratio of ingredients is no longer the same. You may still get some of the original discs depending on the vendor's stock on hand. New discs they get from Monticello will be the new formula though. So you may get the changed product. Don't blame your vendor. So what is different? For one thing, the package is no longer wrapped in plastic. There is a strong licorice smell, which is to be expected given what these are. I wouldn't carry it around in my pocket, nor put a spare box in my travel luggage though. I asked about the discs loosing effectiveness over time, but was told that they've done extensive testing of the new packaging and that they'll stay fresh. Then again, they also said that the formula was exactly the same. You'll also note that the "Best Used By" date printed on the side of the box is no longer there. So what the about the product? To me, the new discs are sharp on the tongue like Altoids. They also seem to have a coarser texture. This could be imagination at this point. I don't have any of the older discs left, so I can't do a fair comparison. The discs are smaller but fatter now. The package weight and item count is the same, so there they haven't reduced the disc size. Sometimes I would break the discs in half, which wouldn't be very easy now. In all, I'm disappointed. I'll keep these discs and use them, but I will be keeping my eye out for a replacement. Funny, but I started buying these discs back in the '60s. They were called "Marion's Original Formula Throat Discs" then. They disappeared for a many years, and then reappeared strangely named just "Original Formual Throat Discs" with an empty area where the word Marion's had been printed. They were a bit smaller and fatter than the Marion's discs, but otherwise the same as the original - original throat discs. I'm looking forward to them disappearing once again, and reappearing as Original Formula once again. *** update **** After several months, the strong licorice smell and sharp taste have dissapated. So much for the packaging theory. Anyway, I've given the product one more star, as my imagination tells me that they are close to what they were before. I don't know if this dissapation will continue, so I'll buy in small quantities in the future. I presume that they will go stale after some period of time. I mentioned before about the change in shape. It does turn out that the fatter disc fits in a pill splitter very nicely. I oftentimes would place a disc in my mouth when going to sleep, to combat dry throat. The older thinner discs would dissolve before I would fall asleep, while the newer "lozenges" would not. If I cut them in half, they work for this purpose once again. A bit of a hassle, but then I'm getting 140 discs in the box instead of just 70 this way.
