Wintersteiger Flatness Tester - TUNE YOUR SKI & BOARD

A good flatness tester (aka True Bar). Round. Heavy and hard steel. I still don't have the base flatness thing down yet and am struggling to see where these are super useful. But then again, maybe my bases are super flat already and why I can t see any light under the true bar. Gives you peace of mind that your bases are flat. Can also be used to see if base edge bevels are even.

Item first one I received was used and had some nicks and scuffs. So be forewarned - if you are really obsessive enough about your tune to invest in a true bar, you may want to look at some of the more expensive true bars elsewhere!* UPDATE * The seller contacted me and offered to replace the item with a new one. With a little polishing compound, however, I was able to smooth out the nicks on the one I received and it is working out OK for what I use it for - getting recreational edges flat enough that skis feel stable and the wax comes off without any low spots. It also suffers from a design "feature" that the round bar (most are square) will like to roll down your ski when you let go of it, so you can't put it down and step back to check the light. I think this might be so you can roll it and look for wobbles, but not sure that I like the feature as much as a square bar where you check the light gap visually.

The flatness tester is too short (4' x 1/2") for most of the newer alpine skis. It's my fault for ordering this size... Nothing is wrong with the product. Be aware that it should be about 2 inches longer if you are using it on wider shaped skis that require a larger flatness tester for the tips and tails.
