Needed for the tub
Kohler now makes many of their tubs with a small angle so only their parts fit. We had been forewarned, and obtained this to go with the tub to do the install right the first time. I would rather have quality metal (not cheap plastic) in places that will be virtually inaccessable once renovation is complete.

Good product needs some TLC
The brass clip holding the overflow in place is Mickey Mouse. I put two small washers to make it functional and longer screws...otherwise forget it.

Not universal
The description said it would work with 14" - 16" deep tubs but it did not work with my brand new Kohler Bellwether KOHLER K-876-0 Bellwether Bath with Integral Apron and Right-hand Drain, White tub so I had to return it and buy the more expensive drain that did fit. I was able to return for full refund and didn't have to pay for shipping.

Good quality drain except for the upper lever control mounting ...
Good quality drain except for the upper lever control mounting bracket. They provide a very flimsy U shaped bracket to fasten the back tube to the tub. I thought this drain would work for my Kohler tub but the tub has a 2.5 inch hole cutout and the bracket is barely over 2.5 inches. It would certainly not work for my Kohler tub. I decided to make my own heavy duty brass bracket designed to match the back drain fixture and large enough for the 2.5 in hole in the tub. I made it from .080 brass plate and programmed my mill to cut the design.

Yes Kohler and yes great quality
Ordered 52 of these for an apartment project and they were much less than the big box and specialty plumbing stores. It is Kohler...yes great product.

Be very careful installing this drain kit.
I've been doing plumbing for about 40 years and this was the first time I sliced a finger open on any threaded pipe. The threads on this drain are razor sharp and while I often use gloves, this time I didn't and went to hand tighten the fitting. I promptly sliced my finger open enough that I had to clean up the blood, use an antiseptic to clean the wound and then bandage it. Not what I would call good quality control nor what I would expect from Kohler. Even worse was Kohler's attitude regarding this incident. They could care less and responded with a canned response that they would pass it on to their Quality Control department. No apology, nothing. I always held Kohler in high regard and usually bought Kohler over other brands. Not any more.If you still must buy this Drain Kit and plan to wear gloves (good gloves not thin rubber gloves, I would recommend Kevlar gloves) then it does install without any problems and seems to work just fine with no leaks. If you do cut yourself, don't expect any sympathy from Kohler.I tried to publish this same information on the Home Depot website but Home Depot rejected my review but would not detail why. I would have expected Home Depot to want its customers to know the dangers involved with installing this product. I wish I had known, would have saved me time, pain and bandages.
