Badly written, beginning of the story does not make sense...
I mostly bought this book because of the beautiful illustrations. The story is dark, and closely aligned with the original story by the Grimm Brothers. But the translation/grammar/editing is unbelievably bad. The wife is introduced as that, the wife, but the relationship with the children is unexplained until a couple of pages later. My biggest complaint however is the grammar and poor editing. Here is an excerpt: "Once upon a time on the edge of a large first there lived a poor woodcutter with his wife and his two children. The little boy was called Hansel, and the little girls (sic) was called Gretel. They had very little to eat, and when a terrible famine hit the land, they had hardly enough to bake a loaf of bread. One evening, as he was sitting worrying by the fire, his wife said to him, 'I tell you what we will have to do. First thing tomorrow we will take the children out into the thickest part of the forest. There we will make a fire and give them each a piece of bread, then we can go about our work and leave them behind. They won't find their way back home, and we will be rid of them.'But the wife called him a fool and said,'Then we must all four starve to death, and you can cut the wood for our coffins.' she gave him no peace until he gave in."Aside from some omitted sentences, there are plenty of other things that I would mark red if I was reading this as an English teacher... The publisher has not responded to my inquiry, and the Amazon return window for the book is closed.

good story not so good book
me and my kids all love this classic book its a good read but in this book there are quite a bit of misspelled words and a few sentences that look scrambled i would recommend buying this tale in a different book or buy a different author it was annoying having to correct the sentence before you read it outloud to your child

Errors in the text!
This was the strangest book. It had typo and other serious errors at the beginning. How can it be that I caught these mistakes during my first time reading the book, but that the editors didn't catch them?!
