I was skeptical about this item due to reviews regarding the noisy springs. This item is definitely noisy out of the box and I was about to replace it with a different type of closer until I read on the Google that applying grease to the internal mechanism would help. I coated the mechanism with White Lithium Grease from Lucas Oil and lo and behold, the thing hasn’t made a noise since! As far as functionality, I wish there were more threaded holes to adjust the closing speed. I could either have it not shut or close pretty hard. I went with the hard close since it is a garage door to the house, which needs to close on its own in CA. Overall, I recommend this product after greasing it up.

I love the product and it’s very innovative. Setting the tension on this is a nightmare and could use a simple way of setting it. Nearly broke my thumb trying to get the tension right for my 100 lb door. Unfortunately I’m going to have to return it since it doesn’t close the door all the way despite my attempt on setting the tension. I couldn’t get the tension to the maximum since it was extremely difficult and I ended up injuring myself. Be sure to keep your hands clear off the tommy bar or it will mess your hand up like it did mine.

Installed on my outdoor shed. LOVE it. The door used to slowly open and stay open and now it closes every time on its own with this apparatus. Easy to install as well.

Greased them because what everyone else says, but after a few days the springs skip out of their moorings and tension is lost. Given that I've committed six screw holes in the frame and door... worse than garbage.

This tiny gadget removed instantly the daily frustration of a door that refused to latch unless I took the extra time. A second door to the outside, if not closed completely allowed wild bears to enter so this is also solved a security issue. Though small, this closer is strong enough to close the door without any effort on my part. It's kind of like having a doorman. It installed very quickly and easily. About two minutes. This invention should win a prize.

Have a number of these types of closers in the house, and they work as needed. The only concern, and it is not a problem with the closer, is that our dog sometimes goes into the room but can not get out.

This thing is extremely loud after the 2nd day of installing it, annoyingly loud. It's really disturbing. I've greased it but in vain Not recommended *After 3 months*It broke

As others have noted, It lacks the force to close a door completely and is very noisy after a day or two. The answer for the noise is to remove the single screw at the bottom of the barrel and open the device up, fill each spring housing with a dollop of grease and reassemble. No more horrible spring noises. While you're at it, adding a little grease to your door latch might complete the closing action.
