I bought this charcoal (ash) tray to replace the original tray and rack for the "fire box" of my near 10 year old New Braunfels smoker due to the tray and rack finally succumbing to years of normal wear and tear from high heat.The Char-Pit tray was exactly as described and worked as well as I expected. It held up great under the high temps from the cherry red embers from a full starter chimney of hard charcoal, numerous scoops of charcoal briquettes, and 4 good sized logs of smoking wood for about 5 hours with only the expected discoloration of the metal surface of the top grates and tray itself. There was no damage to the screws (two per end) supporting the top grates or side screws with wing nuts (top grate support and stops for the sliding action) and the tray slid open and closed as easily as before the initial use.The flexibility of the collapsing design will allow me to also use the Char-Pit tray on the charcoal side of my dual gas / charcoal grill since the curved metal bottom of the original hanging charcoal ash tray has corroded through allowing ash to drop through and make clean up a pain. The new tray will rest on top of the original hanging charcoal grate once I shorten it a little bit. This second use will double the already outstanding value of the Char-Pit tray.I've looked a long time for the perfect replacement for my smoker OEM ash tray and finally found it in the Char-Pit charcoal tray. The multiple uses really increases the value for this very reasonably priced grill / smoker accessory.

Overall I like this product a lot. My gas grill is now 3 summers in, it was a entry level grill for a newbie like myself. I wanted to work my way up to being pro level and I know enough to understand charcoal is superior to propane. With my grill starting to rust I didn’t want to go all charcoal so I put this thing on one half while maintaining my propane on the other 2 burners. For me, this thing is perfect. It allows me to try my hand at learning how to grill on charcoal while I have my propane side to either control over charred food, indirectly grill ribs, or speed up my cooking workflow and transfer to the charcoal side to finish off and get that signature taste. Best of both worlds, saving space and money!Likes:- easy setup.- generally speaking easy to clean- gets the desired results, charbroiled taste is superior to propane.- good priceDislikes:- wish the edges were rounded. You can cut yourselfUnknowns:- I’m not sure of the longevity of this product. But it doesn’t matter much to me as I’m using it in the meantime until I get a full gas grill.

THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN A LONG TIME COMING, BUT I FINALLY GOT TO USE THIS FOR OUR JULY 4TH COOK-OUT. I WAS TOTALLY AMAZED AT HOW WELL THIS ITEM PERFORMED. EVERY PIECE OF CHARCOAL WAS FULLY AND EVENLY BURNING AND THE HEAT WAS EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED. I WAS IMPRESSED AS TO HOW QUICKLY IT HEATED UP AND EVEN APPEARED TO BURN LONGER. LATER, WE ALL SAT DOWN TO A WELL-COOKED MEAL. I'M REALLY PLEASED WITH THIS ITEM, AND SO GLAD I FOUND IT. ESPECIALLY LIKE THE EASY CLEAN-UP. IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING BUYING ONE OF THESE, DON'T DELAY BECAUSE YOU WON'T REGRET IT!! TOTALLY FIVE STARS!!

I used these to turn my old Weber genesis gas grill into a charcoal grill. They fit great inside and have been able to handle the heat from the coals. The mostImportant part is the “screen” that the coal sit on so air is able to surround the coals. Decent quality and much cheaper than other options.

I disliked after my first use of this product that the corner braces came off where tack welded on the bottom of one of the trays. Can you make good on this by replacing one of the trays ? Thank you.
