It's perfect and runs well!
My 6-year-old nephew has been asking for a model train.....since he was 2.5 years old. When he was 3...."Santa" brought him a used one, and we NEVER got it to work.This year (I had to REALLY convince his parents to TRY again....they ARE expensive!) he got this one for Christmas. I would NOT recommend this for EVERY 6-year-old, or even MOST. But - for a model-train obsessed 6-year-old, this SET....is perfect!We are extremely happy with this purchase!

Excellent value for basic train set
I bought this train set because I wanted a ready to run train all in one box, and I am happy with my purchase. I was surprised by how detailed the locomotive and rolling stock are for this price; this train looks better in real life than in the Amazon photos. The track fits together nicely and the train runs smoothly on the track without any derailments. The track makes about a 3 foot diameter circle, which is a good size and shape for under a tree, but I chose not to run mine under the tree to avoid carpet lint and dirt contamination/problems. If you're looking for a top of the line train, this probably isn't the best choice, but if you want a decent quality train at a good price to run during the holidays (or maybe year round), I suggest buying this train set.
