Casey at the Bat (Dover Children's Classics)

The book is fine with a well-written biography of the author. The fine pen and ink drawings are interesting and well-done, but the color cover is slightly misleading as to the b&w content.

It’s the original book, trying to explain the song “Center Field” by John F. Was difficult so we bought the Book and my 7 and 8 YO boys who love baseball now have a favorite Poem!

A classic poem made into a very nice children's book. I would have liked to seen the illustrations done in color, rather than just black and white. But on the other hand, it might make for a unique coloring book. I also like the historical background of the poem in the beginning of the book.

Fun to read. Great illustrations.

Great illustrations for a classic verse. Makes a good gift for a baseball kid.

Great classic book!

I bought this book as a gift for my nephew but it’s not a good print. Some sort of fold or misprint caused the lettering of some words to be misprinted.Also, I hadn’t read the poem since I was a little kid in the ‘70’s and I didn’t realize how violent the language was. It’s a very old poem, and language is different today. Things like, “Kill him! “Kill the umpire” are just not what I wish children to hear. The illustration on the cover looks very cool but the ones inside have no colour and they are not easy on the eyes. They are all light grey tones. More black and darker grey tones would make them more vivid and engaging. I sent the book back because of the typed misprint on most of the pages. The content of the poem and thinking a young boy should hear it was my mistake. It’s an ok story for older kids.

My son absolutely loves this book.The poem by itself is a fantastic read and it is a must have for every baseball fan's child.
