Easy to make use
We needed to convert a HDMI out signal from the computer about 75 feet away to monitors at the front of the room. So I bough one and attached the HDMI to the appropriate port and SDI on the other end and everything came together in a snap. Separate power source, so make sure you have an available outlet, as the cord isn't very long, but it works like a charm. If this is your first time using a device like this or making use of SDI like myself, be aware that you will need to have BNC adapters if you use a run of the mill coaxial cable as we did. But simple to use and the signal is great, perfect for carrying video over longer distance than is feasible with HDMI and depending on how many you need, and the distance, it might be more cost effective. Blackmagic Design posits itself as a premium brand and it shows. Good weight and build quality, doesn't feel cheap at all. Software could be better, fortunately I have not needed to make much use of it for this product.

YOU SHOULD HAVE A PHD IN VIDEO, BEFORE GETTING INTO STUFF LIKE THIS
First of all, Blackmagic design has the worst information and support on the planet. Their product literature and instructions amounts to little more than a Dr. Suess book. So Don't think you're going to learn anything from it. Their actual dial in tech support is a little bit better. Before you start buying their devices, you should understand video resolution and frame rates, and a lot of terminology (most of which I am totally in the dark about). I bought this item because I wanted to stream video from the HDMI port of my Samsung Blu Ray player, into my computer. But the SDI out side requires a minimum of 1080P, and the Blu Ray doesn't output that signal, it doesnt work. But I can set my laptop screen resolution to 1280 x 768, and that works great. So I can play dvd's in my laptop, out to my computer, but cant use my blu ray player... which can play 4K Ultra disks. I have a lot to learn, and a long way to go.. But this trial and error method of buying blackmagic design products is getting expensive. YOU MUST understand the requirements, and educate yourself before diving into hardware.

Great unit!
The only way to go when using with an ATEM, but even just pushing SDI to HDMI these are solid. I love that I can use the USB on the TV or projector to power this, or use a power plug. One small issue is, if you use the USB from the TV or Projector, it will see the converter as a device and give you an error note on the screen that you just clear out, no real problem

Solid and utterly reliable, but beware changes ...
Bought this for a job - as with pretty much all BM products: plug it in, power it up connect it and ... that's it ...One warning though; these do not seem to be backwards compatible with previous generation BM SDI-HDMI converters. And the USB power connection has changed from USB micro to USB C. I've got about four pairs of these and now have them labelled to avoid mixing them up.But worth the money for simple peace of mind; it's not an expensive option given that for most applications it is mission-critical for ...

Good value
Didn't quite work out for what I was planning to use it for but it will come in handy.
