This white miso paste has been a wonderful addition to my kitchen. It has a smooth texture and a rich, savory umami flavor that adds depth to soups, sauces, marinades, vegetables, and other meals. I especially appreciate that it is vegan, kosher, and gluten-free, which makes it easy to use with my dietary preferences. A small amount adds plenty of flavor, so the container lasts longer than expected. I have been very pleased with the quality and taste and would definitely purchase it again.

Listen, I read all the reviews. I looked at all the pictures. I knew that there was a huge possibility that I would be receiving black miso, but I figured I would try to order this affordable white miso because everything else is just so much more expensive. I really wanted to try NYT’s miso chicken recipe and I wasn’t about to pay $17 for 16 ounces of white miso. Therefore, I purchased this to try just in case I didn’t like the flavor. Again, it’s a disgustingly brown black color but the chicken came out great. My 10-year-old son loved it. My 75-year-old mother loved it. It came out pretty decent. I don’t know how much of the success of this dish was due to the miso or the recipe, but it worked. However, I’m giving it four stars simply for false advertising.

Miso is an ingredient that I've heard about for many years and always wanted to try, but never remembered whenever I went to the store. I finally decided to just order some to try, and I am so glad I did. The flavor in this miso is wonderfully deep. It is extremely salty, but I am a sodium fanatic, so it's perfect for me. I also love the almost bitter note around the edges that give this paste an interesting complexity. I love boosting my fried rice, ramen, soups, etc. with this stuff. I feel like this could be a good substitute for a bouillon cube, as well. I've also tried it on buttered toast, similar to how you would eat Vegemite (which I also love), to great success. Fully recommend!

less apt to go to waste - it was quick and easy to use

This is the third time I ordered this product. The first time it was great! Great taste, a nice white miso paste color. But the second time it was exploded all over the box and this time the seal is popped, the item is brown not white, and you can hear air release when pressed. The return policy is not being honored because it says on the page that the item is able to be returned if damaged but no option is offered when I try to refund or return. I will not be purchasing from this seller in the future.

UPDATE: This seller proactively reached out to me after reading my review and offered a full refund. I am VERY IMPRESSED with their customer service and would try again with this seller especially after being informed that "if the product you receive is too dark or too light for your liking please message the seller and they will exchange or refund your order." Original Review ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my first time cooking with White Miso so I didn't know what it was supposed to look like or smell like. I did think it was strange that it wasn't anything close to the color white. I tried it once and did not care for the pungent smell or extremely overpowering taste. It wasn't until I was at TJs and saw white miso there that I realized what it was actually supposed to look like new and that the reason mine smelled so bad is because it was bad. Unfortunately this product is non refundable so I can't even get my money back for something I have to throw away.
