Vallejo 76.517 Model Wash Paint 35 ml, Dark Grey

This wash adds a lot of realism without taking much effort. I mainly use it on military vehicles and armor builds to bring out recessed details, panel lines, bolts, welds, and textured surfaces. It settles into the low spots nicely and gives the model that used, dirty look instead of looking like it just rolled out of the factory. The Oiled Earth color is a good middle ground. It works well for grime, road dirt, and general weathering without being so dark that it overpowers the paint underneath. I like applying it over a gloss coat, letting it flow into the details, and then wiping away the excess. It leaves just enough behind to make the details stand out without looking overdone. The consistency is ready to use straight from the bottle, so I haven't had to thin it very often. It brushes on smoothly, dries evenly, and it's easy to build up the effect with multiple light applications if I want a dirtier finish. A little also goes a long way, so the bottle lasts much longer than I expected. I've also used it on aircraft landing gear, wheel wells, engines, and other mechanical details where I wanted a little extra depth. It's one of those products that doesn't scream for attention, but once you use it, your finished models end up looking noticeably more realistic.

Excellent product that does what it claims. It is a wash and therefore quite thin and watery; repeated applications may be needed to build up a depth of colour for some situations. Instructions are brief and in several European languages. As another reviewer stated, it is 35 ml size and should last a long time. There is a dropper top (with a flip-up cap) if you need a little on a palette or glass plate you can remove the complete cap to dip a brush. If you don't leave it too long, errors can be easily corrected with a clean wet brush or Q-tip. Once dry, it is permanent. The brand and product was not previously known or used.
