B&M 20248 Governor Recalibration Kit

I bought this with my box Chevy Ls swap update to the governor and didn’t really think it would improve everything!I had an issue with the transmission not shifting correctly, it was shifting at 2000 rpm. I used the heavy weight and lightest spring(red)Man this things shifts at 4000 rpm at WOT now and that’s what I was aiming for! Hopefully this review helps out. Big game changer and I got it right on the first try.

this kit works as advertised, raised my 72 c10’s shift point from 4500 to about 5k! Have patients its all trial and error not much to say other than try it out. I personally didnt mind the e clips and rod in the kit, not sure why most guys rebuy 6d finish nails when the kits rods work just fineHelpful hints:Make sure your kickdown cable is properly adjusted before pursuing other issues, screwing with the governor should be last. having a bad cable or unsecured mount will just complicate things.For most part throttle shifts or cruise shifting most of that is achieved thru the vacuum modulator, if youre looking to spread shifts out or shift quicker at part throttle adjust here first if yours is adjustable and working properly of course (clockwise to raise rpms and shift, counter clockwise to shift earlier or at lower rpm’s)Now if youre like most and need to raise wot shift rpms, shimming the detent cable is the correct way to do it but changing governor weights is much easier and cheaper imho. Now Most guys have most success sticking with their stock springs and changing weights only!Change only one thing at a time, either weight or springs i would never do both unless youve done this before...Lighter weights raise the rpm shift point while heavier weights lowers it... usually!

The kit comes with all the parts you need to adjust the governor.I am not a trans rebuilder so I think the instructions could be a little more helpful on combinations of weights and springs

I believe now, that this kit is for racing, and high rev shifting. Not the direction I wanted to go, so I kept my weights the same and just tried different spring, which made a good difference. Though I am in still need of an original governor for my 1500 suburban that has an THM700R4 with a 700HP beast kit installed by the transmission shop. They throw all original parts away to a recycling place. Wish I had my old parts still😓

Buy it!Don't mess with a grinder when your shift points can be precisely tuned with this kit.It takes about 6 trys to get the shifts you want.Try a bunch of random combinations.I got my 5,000 shift point by using heaver weights and lighter springs.

Right part, On time.

My car is quite light ( 28 ford Model a delivery) and kick down would not work and stacked the shifts before you got through an intersection. Had to do 3 tries to get it right but now it works super. Kick down now works up to 50 mph + and WOT shifts are now at 6200 rpm instead of 4700 rpm. Just be patient and do small adjustments.

Great kit! Worked perfectly, and I like the included reusable dowel pins. I was able to change my full throttle shift points from 4500 rpm to 5500 rpm. Even managed on the first try! It may be a bit of guesswork and trial and error to get it exactly how you want, but the kit worked perfect for me.
