Blades are rubbish
Not as good as I thought
C**Y
After trying almost every alternative I am back with Gillette.
It is about 55 years since I first shaved so my stubble is now quite a challenge for any razor. I have tried a lot of other brands, partly as a protest at the very high price of replacement Gillette blades and partly because of my perception that Gillette blades seem to lose their edge faster than they used to. On reflection, while the latter may be true, it is also true that age has made my stubble a stiffer (no pun intended!) challenge for any razor. My favourite handle has been the Gillette power, from its first version onwards. When I saw this set on Amazon, with nine blades and a new Power handle I decided to give it a go. My first shave this morning, on two days growth, has given me my closest shave in a while. Using hot water and Gillette's ProFusion sensitive shave gel, I am very pleased. I have made a diary note so that I can see how long this first blade lasts, but for now I am more than happy. No razor burn, no annoying missed areas, just a smooth ancient face!

Improvement over other models
Previous models vs current models:I never thought much to the different models that Gillette and other companies bring out year after year. They just seem to get more expensive (both razor and replacement heads) and I thought they'd be offering nothing new.I didn't see the point in the highly priced labs series with heated blades so this one seemed to be a good alternative to try.I must admit I was wrong in regard to the jump between this and the Mach2 which I have stuck with mainly because of price.Compared to the Mach 2 this is quicker and doesn't tug my hairs as much so it less painful. My hair:I rarely grow my stubble over 4-5mm and have a Phillips beard trimmer as well as a Phillips 9 series rotary shaver that I normally use to trim my facial hair first before sometimes wet shaving with a razor. This is mainly to stop painful tugging on the hairs.Performance:I don't have to trim my hair with my beard trimmers as much with this model, although if grown longer I imagine trimming first it would help. The extra blades in this model make all the difference. I do have to still pass over more than once and hold my skin taut to get a close shave but it's quicker. As usual the neck area is a pain to shave because of the different directions my hairs grow.I've not found the blades dull straight away but then I only shave once or twice a week and my hair isn't overly thick.Features:1. In addition to the extra blades, the extra 'precision' blade on the top of the razor is highly useful for shaving above my lip and straightening off my sideburns. That said, I didn't have a problem so much shaving above my lips with the Mach 2 as there weren't so many blades.2. The yellow moisturising strip on the lower part of the razor presumably is there to just trap any shaving foam or gel - it doesn't seem to provide moisturiser itself so I think this is a little misleading. After placing it on a tiled surface after use (and rinsing it) the strip actually stuck to the surface and when I went to pick up the razor it pulled this strip off - not ideal. I have continued using it though and sometimes very slightly cut myself but not overly so it leaves me wondering what the point is in it?3. The orbital head - I haven't really noticed this working as I tend to just swipe down or diagonally.I used to prefer putting my index finger around this place with the old razors (although this sometimes disconnected the head) and I can't press on otherwise it would stop the head rotating - so I guess I find it a little awkward to hold.4. The power feature - again, I tend to forget about this feature. It's powered by x1 AA battery. I wish the button was more raised and it's a little low down the handle. I'm not sure how pulsing waves would help but some people seem to prefer it. I tend to only remember half way through the shave and certainly wouldn't use it when doing the lip area.Comparison against an electric shaver:As mentioned I have 2 electric shavers including a Phillips 9 series rotary shaver that does manage to shave very close to the skin. I think although it's awkward to use around the lip I can almost get a better shave compared to this wet shaver due to the extra blades making it awkward to see what I'm doing. It certainly cannot get all the hairs and often misses some especially on the front of my neck.Whilst this razor does get all hairs, I'm not sure it gets much closer than that of the Mach 2, the main different is quicker speed and less painful tugging occurring.Value:I'm not sure how this offers up to other models but the fact that this pack comes with 9 refill blades - these will last me ages. Conclusion:Would I recommend and buy again - sure, it seems to be making a difference and is a step up from the older models.

THE BEST A MAN CAN BUY!!
These razors are the best Gillette have made yet, I have been using Gillette for the past 40 years and these in my opinion are the best so far, I shave every day and these blades do last for a month at a time so they work out cheap for a brilliant close shave.

Does what it says on the tin.
I bought this product, as I have been using the Gillette Fusion Power, which I think just felt a bit like I wanted to upgrade after all these years. This was on offer, so I took the punt and purchased it. I find that the blades are sharper and the handling more ergonomic. Also, the blades remain sharper for longer in between shaves, which means I will get more use out of it.The hypoallergenic hydro strip also makes shaving a doddle and less chance of nicks, especially seeing as it vibrates when switched on, allowing for more friction. A very valuable purchase.

BETTER & SMOOTHER Shaves than my old M3P Gillette
I was always hesitant to switch from my Gillette M3P razor. Most people flinch when they learn it vibrates, but I was sold on it from first use. I'm not a believer in 'more is always better' but I was won over.. the 5 blades DO make for a closer smoother shave AND I appreciate the single blade on the back side, for hard to reach nooks and cranies.
