RoboCop: Prime Directives - Dark Justice

Prime Directives continues the dark rootsof the original RoboCop
Confused at all the RoboCop titles you see on Amazon? Let's fix that. RoboCop: The Series is a 22-episode ,1994 Canadian television series based on the films, specifically, the series takes place between RoboCop 1 and 2. Richard Eden plays RoboCop in this version. Canada's Skyvision Entertainment paid $500,000 cash to Orion Pictures for TV licensing rights. The show is know for being made to appeal primarily to children and young teenagers, lacking the graphic violence that was the hallmark of the original film. The pilot episode is remembered for being adapted from a discarded RoboCop 2 script, Corporate Wars, by the writers of the original RoboCop, Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner. It does seem a bit silly that Robocop has non-lethal ways of dispatching criminals at times, and even young teens that remember the original film will be upset at the kid-friendly aspect of the show. Its not a bad show, apparently being rather expensive to produce at the time (up to $1.5 million per episode), but its rather lackluster to watch nowadays.RoboCop: Prime Directives, the 2001 Canadian TV, 4 episode miniseries. Page Fletcher plays RoboCop in this series. Fireworks Entertainment was about to have the RoboCop license expire so they rushed this miniseries into production. It consisted of four feature-length (95 min) episodes: Dark Justice, Meltdown, Resurrection, and Crash and Burn. You can find them all listed separately on Amazon, but you can still find them. I actually recommend RoboCop: Prime Directives, directed by Julian Grant. The family-friendly TV 1994 series held no interest to Grant, and he returned RoboCop to his dark and more violent roots. The Prime Directives series takes place ten years after the original film, and ignores all events from RoboCop 2 and 3. The director has stated that he did not do this because he didn't respect the other films, but rather to give him some room to craft his own story. It defiantly stands up better than the kid-friendly series, but it has been often criticized for its low-budget look (special effects, locations, action sequences, and so on). It defiantly has its own style to it, and though it was put together rather quickly, its not a bad series. To see them in order, you need to watch (1) Dark Justice (2) Meltdown (3) Resurrection (4) then Crash and Burn.Prime Directives premiered in the United States on the Sci Fi Channel to lackluster ratings at the time. I still recommend it over the other live-action series, though collectors will want them both anyway. Lets just ignore the animated RoboCop series at the moment :)

The "FAST FOOD" of Robocop
This four movie series came out in the 1990s. While the quality is not quite up-to-expectations, it does make an attempt to be faithful to the continuity. if I recall correctly, the producers had a real passion for wanting to create a true Robocop sequel, but were constrained to the rights of the television series; e.g., this is why you see the TV's version of OCP's logo and reused footage from there. However, this also means that they were constrained by the production values of television... low-budget television from Canada! If you need a Robocop fix and understand that the people behind this were passionate about Robocop, then you can enjoy it a little bit more. So, while not quite like a gourmet meal like the movies, consider it a quick fix like FAST FOOD!

Starts slow, but is well worth it
This the first instalment of the Robocop mini-series, and I admit its the worst of the four. Of course since the next three are so good being worst isn't so bad. Yea, its made for TV but its good for a made for TV movie. It has the classic flash back seen in everything Robocop and we meet new characters and see some old ones all grown up such as Robo's son. Yea the character of Done Machine looks corny as heck, but his persona makes more since than some of the guys I could name and he doesn't play too big of a role anyway. This is a good made for TV movie that doesn't work if you compare it to three orginal movies. Just remember this is a part one of four movie so its a step up movie. This one is three stars for a made for TV movie and the rest of the mini-series can go from 4 to 5. I just hope they come out quicker than this one did. You should buy for no other reason than its part one of what will most likely be the last Robocop videos made.

If You're Already a Robocop Fan You'll Probably Like This, Otherwise....
This isn't going to go down as a great piece of cinema, but probably as a cult classic. I love Robocop and I love the anti-corporate message that has run throughout all of the Robocop movies. Funny to be saying that on Amazon. Anyway, the weak parts here are some of the acting and some of the writing, but these movies are made in the spirit of the old Robocop movies, and Robocop fans in general should enjoy them.

Good part 1 of the miniseries.
Good part 1 of the Prime Directives miniseries, but not as good as the first 2 movies. I need to buy the other parts to the series, but this will do for now. Robocop was decent in here, not as good as Peter Weller though. It starts off fairly slow, but picks up the pace quickly. Dark Justice is a lot better than Robocop 3, and has a darker tone than it. If it's better than Robocop 3, it's good enough for me.

Better than the tv sereies made in 1994
The four Prime Directive tv movies, aren't too bad actually. They are much better than the Robocop tv series made in 1994. They bring Robocop back to his violent roots, which is awsome. These four tv movies could have been better, but what can you do, there are worser tv miniseries out there, much worse. So give this a shot, if you like it you like it, if you don't you don't.

Schlechter B-Film
Der Film ist, selbst für sein Alter, billig und schlecht produziert und dann schlecht ins deutsche Synchronisiert. Kann ihn nicht empfehlen.
