Pendant des années, je n'ai utilisé qu'un scanner à plat (EPSON Perfection 1200S), que j'ai toujours, et qui va encore très bien pour scanner des images, des photos, ou des documents imprimés d'un seul côté, mais qui ne fait pas le PDF, et encore moins le recto/verso.Et là, souhaitant numériser un grand nombre de documents A4, recto/verso pour la plupart, et les conserver en PDF tout en jetant l'exemplaire papier une fois scanné, afin de désengorger mon bureau, j'ai tenté l'achat de ce scanner CANON. Verdict : malgré le prix un peu élevé, je n'ai que du bien à en dire. La qualité se paye, comme souvent avec CANON, mais elle est au rendez-vous.Le scan est agréablement rapide, recto/verso en une seule passe. On peut enfourner une bonne trentaine de feuilles d'un coup (en restant à côté quand même, en cas de bourrage, mais il y en a peu si on fait attention de ne pas mettre n'importe quoi dans l'appareil). Attention aux agrafes, par exemple.Le logiciel fourni avec, pour Windows et pour Mac, est de très bonne facture, malgré quelques points de détail encore perfectibles. Enfin, je viens de voir ce soir qu'un driver officiel Canon pour Linux existe (32 bits, .deb, .rpm et .tar.gz) sous licence GNU GPL v2, pour utiliser le scanner avec SANE. Bravo Canon !Ah si, une petite critique quand même : ce scanner s'utilise soit connecté en USB, soit en wifi, mais pas possible de faire les deux à la fois (pour le partager en wifi avec un PC situé dans une autre pièce, tout en étant connecté en USB sur le PC où on l'utilise le plus souvent). Et comme je ne l'utilise finalement pas en wifi, j'aurais dû (si j'avais su avant) prendre la version DR-C225 pas W, qui existe également. Mais bon... on est maintenant en 2023, et ce scanner que j'ai acheté en 2015 fonctionne toujours aussi bien. Il suffit d'être un peu soigneux.

Having read an article online about the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 I decided to look at the alternatives and ended up buying this device. Why? Five main reasons: the Canon has a smaller footprint on the desk and I had limited space; the Canon has a plug-in for OneDrive (as far as I can determine the Fujitsu does not); some industry reviews found that the Canon narrowly outperformed the Fujitsu in converting scanned documents to text; the Canon supports TWAIN but the Fujitsu does not and finally at the time of ordering there was a £35 cashback offer from Canon. The Canon DR-C225W was relatively straightforward to setup and within a short space of time I had it connected to my router and working with my desktop PC, two laptops and my iPad. The scanner can only be connected to one device at a time but the wireless network driver can be set to automatically connect to the scanner when it is detected and to automatically disconnect if another device requests access and the scanner is not being used by the current device. The wireless network driver connects to the scanner and creates a vitual USB device on your PC/laptop, so when you connect you hear the usual sound Windows makes when you plug-in a USB device. I needed to play around with the Canon Capture On Touch software for about half-an-hour before I properly understood how it works, but once I'd determined how I wanted to configure it I was able to quickly setup all my computers the same way. The software has many options and you can create your own scanning presets using any combination of those options. In addition, you can select some of your presets to be favourites and then select one of those favourites to be automatically run when you press the scan button on the scanner. It's having so many options that means you need time to figure it all out. Once set up to taste, the scanner works quickly, consistently and efficiently - paper is fed through at an astonishing rate, both sides being scanned simultaneously and blank pages being automatically ignored (e.g. when there's nothing on the back of a page). Optical character recognition (OCR) is indeed impressive. When saving a scan as a PDF, the scanner performs OCR on the document and creates an invisible layer of text over the document. This means that when you open the PDF you can search for a word and, as long as it was recognised correctly during OCR, Acrobat will highlight the word in the scanned document because the invisible word is positioned perfectly above it - it's like magic! I expect other document scanners work in the same way, but I have only used the Canon. I'm already in the habit of scanning anything I want to file that arrives in the post each day and organising it into folders like a virtual filing cabinet, it takes just a few minutes, no longer than filing paperwork in a filing cabinet, but has the tremendous advantage that the electronic files can be searched and retrieved in seconds - no more trawling through a file looking for a specific piece of paperwork. Bliss! The scanner is already one of those devices that I wouldn't want to be without.

Certes ce scanner peut paraître cher (439 euros) au vu de la qualité des scans qui n'égale pas la précision des scanners à plat bien moins onéreux.C'est tout simplement parce que ce scanner est conçu avant tout pour automatiser le scan des documents écrits le plus rapidement possible.Quand j'ai sorti l'engin de la boîte, j'ai constaté qu'il était lourd (2.8 kg) et robuste et occupait une place assez réduite sur le bureau de par sa conception verticale.J'ai placé un document de 30 pages recto/verso dans le chargeur qui en quelques minutes (voire moins d'une minute) m'a scanné tout le paquet sans bourrage et m'a généré automatiquement un PDF OCRisé avec une reconnaissance OCR quasi parfaite. Une sélection complète par Control-A sur le PDF a montré que 99% du texte avait été reconnu.J'ai ensuite mis des facturettes qui bien qu'étant de taille réduite et fines voire cornées et froissées n'ont posé aucun problème au scanner.Le driver intègre un petit algo qui redresse automatiquement les feuilles (de manière logicielle) qui partent de travers.Par ailleurs, le système détecte et s'arrête quand 2 pages sont prises à la fois donc impossible de manquer des scans.Le foudre de guerre Ricoh à 20000 euros que j'ai au boulot ne fait pas mieux en matière de scan et il ne détecte pas les doubles insertions. Peut-être n'est-ce qu'une question de réglage toujours est-il que la prise en main de ce petit scanner Canon est rapide et que les résultats sont très bons.Même si le produit paraît avant tout destiné aux secrétariats et aux petits commerces, sachez qu’il procure un gain de temps précieux aux particuliers qui comme moi souhaitent tout numériser pour ne plus s'encombrer de kilos de paperasse.

The scanner came early, which was good for me. It works well but I get jams if I try to scan a sheet with paper of photos stuck on it. I was also looking for a scanner that did good OCR, but the Canon CaptureonTouch V4's OCR results were poor. The product was supposed to come with a different scanning software , better for OCR, but I couldn't find this in the box. It was only after contacting the seller, who was very helpful, that I got a link to a webpage where this could be downloaded.

I've had a Fujitsu ScanSnap for over 6 years but the lack of a TWAIN driver started to become a real problem. This Canon scanner (with TWAIN driver) solves those problems for me:1. It's possible to scan directly into Acrobat - so you can easily have one large PDF and just "append" pages from the scanner straight into Acrobat2. Possible to scan directly into OneNote, etc etc etcALso, this scanner's settings are far more configurable. (for example you can select how much colour there needs to be on a page before the "Auto" setting decides to scan in colour). The dialog boxes allow much more detailed config settings than the Fujitsu ScanSnap software.Only reason i'm docking a star is the noise - it makes lots of loud clunky noises and overall is a significantly noisier machine than ScanSnap.
