The most significant book in modern chemical engineering.
Aside from the logical and mathematical sciences, there are three branches of natural science which stand apart by reason of the variety of far-reaching deductions drawn from a small number of primary postulates. These are mechanics, electromagnetics, and thermodynamics -- the "engineering sciences".When "BSL 1960" was first published, the authors expressed their belief that transport phenomena should be recognized as one of the engineering sciences. Now 60 years later, this belief has been justified. This is the reason that the appearance in 1960 of BSL is significant for the chemical engineering profession. Civil Engineering have "mechanics", Mechanical Engineering have "thermodynamics", and Electrical Engineering have "electromagnetics". Transport phenomena, with or without chemical reactions, is what distinguishes Chemical Engineering from the other engineering professions.

Great reference
This is a classic standard for transport theory. Not exactly a light read but I didn't buy it for that. This is a reference text book if you need it you know who you are.

Fantastic reference book
If you're in the small niche of people that needs this book or are highly interested in it, it's a jewel to have. It was recommended by a professor of mine, and I was really glad I picked it up. Plus, if your friends happen to open it up it looks SUPER impressive ;)

Best book on Transport EVER
Whether you want to learn about momentum, heat, or mass transfer, this is THE book! I have 3 copies of it and refer to it regularly.

Best Modeling Book by Far
I spent one semester with this text in ChE grad school. There is something I think quite sublime about this book. Although I only barely approached the abilities represented in this text by these doctors, I am still in awe of the modeling mastery which it represents. Due to this text I was able to take a step toward true modeling mastery, unfortuantely, or maybe not, my career has not provided any continuing opportunites to develop the deep modeling insights which this book will teach you. Really amazing stuff to have such an esteemed text actually remove the shackles of engineering math. If you put in the work to understand even 20% of this book then you will likely re-learn what you knew in high school: the answer is more valuable than showing all the bs partial credit 'steps'.....

A 'must-have' title for chem engg modelling enthusiasts!
Writing science beautifully and simply is an art and is undoubtedly an extremely taxing task. But the authors, BSL, seem to have mastered this and the result is very much seen in this book, Transport Phenomena. The book encourages systematic development and most importantly, clarity of thought. These systematic techniques enable one to solve complex problems with a relative ease without compensating for the rigour involved! Fundamentally explicit, the book renews and stirs interest in modelling chemical engineering systems. A number of examples on momentum, heat and mass transfer have been explained. Combinations of the transport processes have also been dealt with. Difficult mathematical concepts of tensors, bessel functions, error functions etc are superbly explained. I sincerely hope that in further editions of the book, a lot more examples from interfacial transport processes and combined momentum-heat-mass transfer are included.
