Size:3/8" x 1/8" | Number of Items:1 This Anvil hex bushing is a class 150 steel pipe fitting with Male National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads on the outside and female NPT threads on the inside to connect two pipes of different sizes. It has NPT threads for creating tighter seals than straight threads. The bushing has a hexagonal head for increased leverage and use with a wrench during installation and disassembly. This fitting is made of steel and has a black finish to provide greater rust resistance than iron and can be used for oil and gas applications. The class 150 hex bushing meets specifications ASTM A53 and ASME B 1.20.1 for quality assurance. Class is a standard relating to tolerance, construction, dimension, and wall thickness, but it is not a direct measurement of maximum working pressure. Pipe fittings are components used for connecting, terminating, controlling flow, and changing the direction of piping in many different industries. When purchasing pipe fittings, consider the application, as this will affect material type, shape, size and required durability. Fittings are available threaded or unthreaded, in many shapes, styles, sizes, and schedules (pipe wall thickness). Anvil International provides pipe products and design services. The company, founded in 1850 and headquartered in Portsmouth, NH, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 standards and is certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Its fittings meet American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) specifications.

Good solution for Master air compressor to Paasche airbrush, genuine ANVIL-USA as advertised
I bought this bushing to adapt between the stated 1/8" NPT male fitting on a "Master Airbrush" air compressor and the 1/4" NPT female connector used by Paasche Airbrush hoses. The part I received was a genuine Anvil International part as described still in a retail sealed plastic bag with the Anvil International name and logo, part number 87001288807 (for the 1/4" x 1/8" part), a retail UPC bar code, and MADE IN USA printed on it. See the first attached picture showing the plastic bag.The part was "black" as described (more a dull gray) indicating that it has the rust preventive coating that Anvil has as an option for their small steel hex bushings (see page 73 of Anvil's Pipe Fittings and Steel Nipples catalog).Since these are stated as NPT (national pipe taper), thread tape should not be needed for sealing, only for lubrication and rust prevention. However connecting without tape resulted in substantial air leakage traveling along the spiral thread path of the 1/8" NPT connection between the male air compressor and the female side of the Anvil part. This seemed rather odd since NPT as spec'ed by American National Standard Pipe Thread standards defines a tapering of the threads which closes the gap between threads as the male side is turned further into the female, hence the reason no tape should be required for sealing. For 1/8" NPT, the effects of the tapering should begin to happen after about 4.5 turns and fully around 7 turns. But instead the two parts connected for over 8 turns with no resistance/tightening until the Anvil part (female side) bottomed out on a stop ring on the male air compressor connector. See the second picture attached which shows this connection bottomed out.A check of the Anvil catalog says these steel bushings' threads are indeed tapered (at 3/4" per foot matching standards) which I tend to believe so I'm questioning the NPT designation given by Master Airbrush for their air compressor's connector (although it would have to be more than a tapering vs. straight issue on the male side since it reached bottom). So falling back to using PTFE thread for purposes of sealing also, I was able to get an good air seal (up to my max 70 PSI) although I never encountered tightening due to thread tapering (just bottoming out). I chose not to drop any stars since I actually believe its the air compressor side that is off-spec and that the Anvil part is correct.

Perfect fit, great for lamp projects
The Anvil 1/2" NPT Male x 1/8" NPT Female is a good product, that meets the specifications and has a good fit. There's no rust and it is easy to screw in. Though the description says black finish, it is just the usual metal color. One thing I will note it that the 1/8" female end works great for the 1/8 IPS pipes you need for lamp projects, which is what I used it for.
