There are many jewels in this book that would have helped guide me in my early work life. Having a great work ethic I got from my parents but knowing how to navigate around office politics and toxic personalities. It's so many variables you have to deal with at work besides are you doing a good enough job. This book helps you gauge what you can control and how to deal with the things you can't control.One of the best career books you can buy.

This title of this book might actually do itself a bit a disservice because I think men will get just as much out of this book as women, but that aside, I cannot stress this enough: this book is a game changer. I cannot stop talking about this book to anyone who will listen, so much so, in fact, that my company president has just ordered a copy of the book for his all-male executive team. It's that good. It really will open your eyes to how much men and women simply miscommunicate, especially in a business setting.I love the author's approach to the subject as well. They never say one way is right and the other is wrong. The whole concept is to recognize what is happening, and to choose for yourself the appropriate way to respond to achieve your goal (whether you are a woman or a man).It's a quick read, and the way it's sectioned off makes it easy to pick up and put down, for those who might not have hours on end to dedicate to reading.Buy the book! I cannot speak more highly of it.

I read this book long ago, and it has helped me tremendously in dealing with groups of women vs groups of men in business, especially when I've been in a leadership position. It is also helpful in social situations. Now I am buying it to give to a friend to whom I recommended it and outlined its essential points without having having read it for over 20 years-- that's how well I remember its message!Essential reading for any woman who wants to understand and thrive in the business world.

Working in a male-dominated company in a male-dominated field (sales) I had noticed some of the behaviors mentioned in this book. However, "Hardball" gave me insight into WHY I saw these behaviors and how to deal with them. The book is getting a little dated (the power suit/skirt is out, the power suit with slacks is the choice of women executives these days) but still very good information. You must keep in mind that not ALL men think this way - as with all generalizations you have to keep flexible and adapt to the situation. A must read for any woman who is mystified by the behaviors she sees around her and wants to move up in the corporate world.

I have been having trouble at work and gotten into a lot of arguments over the past year and a half with my male counterpart. After reading the first few pages of this book, I finally understand him and more so myself. I now see where the disconnect is between him and I. Many excerpts from this book I have already highlighted and added notes saying to myself, "Yeah, that's exactly what's happening or what's going on in my life with my male counterpart". I know why we clash so much in arguments about work and in our personal lives. And I am only on page 64 of over 400 pages. I cannot wait to see what other insight is left for me in these pages and I cannot wait to hand a copy to the men in my life so that they too can see how different we are. Maybe then they will stop yelling, stop calling me weak, stop blaming me for doing things a different way that still gets the same results. I am so thankful to have found this book.

Excellent book full of useful advice. It is a little bit dated but the strategies are stll relevant nowadays (unfortunately gender diversity is alive and kicking). It starts with an explanation on how socialisation has an impact on the education and behaviour of women and how working in a world where the rules are not women friendly requires a different approach. Women are not wring and do not need fixing!A very clever and useful guide on how to thrive in the business world without becoming someone that you are not. A must have both for men and women.

I love this book. I always keep a copy in the house and give it as gifts or recommend it to friends and women I mentor.The first time I read this book years ago I negotiated my own 12k raise a month later (and many more since) and it has helped me in other negotiations - professional and personal.'The Good Girl's Guide to Negotiating' and 'Hardball for Women' are a power combo for any woman looking to step up her game without getting cut throat but retaining healthy boundaries.

I am a senior female manager at a Fortune 500 company who has worked in various regions around the world. This is the best and only book that I use as a bible - both in enlightening younger woman and senior management. As part of a major diversity effort in Latin America, I felt so strongly about this book that I provided it to every male manager of women as well as every woman in the organization. Every person I know who has read it found it to be very powerful and useful in building and leveraging the diversity in their organizations. A must-read!

Eye opening and potentially life changing. It has made me understand the things that I've seen at work which have confused me... A total epiphany.If you work in any large organisation and are female you should read this. If you are a man in a leadership role in such an organisation, you should read this... You will get more out of your workforce and reduce turnover.

I only read the first chapter then left the book on an airplane. I was able to put that chapter to use right away and felt so great about it that I am going to reorder the book.
