Great little puppy... cute as can be!
Purchased Zoomer Puppy for Christmas for our young grandson who is thrilled! He couldn't be happier if it were a real puppy. We removed it from the box ahead of time (no small accomplishment, by the way, trying not to shred its box; it's tied down all over) so we could give it to him charged and ready to go. The usb charging cable had a problem with one connection wire and it took forever to figure out the problem, and my husband had to "jimmy" a wire to finally get it to charge. But finally it worked. In the first afternoon, with several hours of play, our grandson trained it to do 3 tricks. Such a happy kid! Honestly, even if it did no tricks this little puppy would still be cute and entertaining. It roams around the room and wiggles and wags its tail and is quite charming. Heads up: Be sure to READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS FIRST before charging or doing anything with this toy.

Maybe needs work on the voice recognition.
My child lost interest very quickly because he has a slight speech impediment and Zoomer doesn't "understand" him because of the speech issue. Zoomer would do what he "thought" my child was saying and not what he actually said. Probably a great toy for a child who has good enunciation. Not so great for a kid who had ear tubes, who was a late talker with a slightly "strange" sounding speech pattern that my son's teachers have described as sounding like he has "a bit of an accent" they can't quite place. That makes me have doubts about how well Zoomer would do with any kind of an "accent" other than straight up mid-western English.

Overall I really like Zoomer
<Written by 8-year-old recipient:> Zoomer is fun but a little hard to train and sometimes it doesn't do what you want it to do. And it takes an hour to charge, which is a long time. I suggest getting this for someone who can wait a little while. It is sort of confusing in the beginning and sometimes can be a little frustrating but over time it becomes less frustrating. <Written by parent:> Really clever, inventive toy that seems like it will be played with for more than a few weeks. It responds well to adult voices but not as well to higher, children's voices (which is a shortcoming). It takes an hour to charge and then runs for about 15-20 minutes, which is about a normal attention span anyhow. Overall, a cool toy--just on the expensive side.

Don't buy - Product is defective and will not charge
After seeing all the bad reviews on Christmas day, I figured I would join the pack. I purchased this Zoomer dog for my son for Christmas. It worked for the first hour but now it won't charge. It is unresponsive no matter what I do. Apparently SpinMaster customer service is a joke too...people are forced to wait on hold for hours until finially surrendering, and then hanging up without speaking to a customer service rep. If I would've known the problems with this toy, I wouldn't have purchased such a defective product. And now, I'm stuck with a Zoomer statue that does nothing but "play dead". This toy is no longer available in stores, Ebay resellers are asking close to $150-200 for a product that retails for $79. What an absolute nightmare! Instead of enjoying my Christmas, I had to research how to fix this toy. Still haven't found a solution. Not long into my research I found that this "charging issue" is actually very common. Zoomer's facebook page is full of irritated customers asking for help. Makes me wonder why they stopped manufacturing this robot dog in the first place, maybe the company knows about this problem and decided to stop the bleeding. Yet I haven't seen anyone from SpinMaster acknowledge there's a problem though. Thanks SpinMaster, you got my money now but I will remember this. And I hope every other customer you rear-ended this year remembers this. Good luck in 2014!

Longer Play Time, Please!
The only thing that kept this from being a five star review was the fact that play time on this is so short. Zoomer takes about an hour to charge, but you only get 20-30 minutes of play from that charge. That really is my only complaint. The fact is that Zoomer is adorable! He's very, very puppy like and my daughter was delighted. She loves the reaction she gets when she scratches Zoomer's chest or when she says I love you to him. When we first took him out, we had a little trouble - mostly because everyone was shouting commands at him at once. (And not just the kids! The adults were having just as much fun!) However, reading the manual, we soon realized that you need to calm it down a bit. When one person spoke in a normal tone of voice from 1-3 feet away, Zoomer got it. Now, we haven't had this long so he still needs some training, but he got most of the commands immediately this way. (By the way, it's seriously cute when he sleeps.) Now, for parents of young children: I have a five-year-old. She mostly speaks very firmly and clearly, but when she's excited and her voice pitches louder or softer, Zoomer has trouble with her commands. She's learned very quickly to regulate how she talks to him and has had better success, but it is a learning curve. If you have a younger child who doesn't speak clearly all the time, they'll have a little trouble with Zoomer and may get frustrated when he doesn't react. All in all, I'm thrilled with this product. I would only wish for more play time. 20-30 minutes isn't nearly enough. Very fun little robo-dog!

Amazon found an English speaking dog and had it delivered on time for Christmas. This made a 10 yr old girl very happy.

The first Zoomer purchased would not charge..The second Zoomer worked fine for three charges which gives a running time in total of about 1hour 15minutes then one of the back legs stopped functioning..This is very annoying because all in the house were having so much fun and were very entertained watching Zoomers antics.Zoomer has the potential to be great entertainment for adults as well as children..We like Zoomer so much that we shall ask for a third replacement and hope that it works as it should.

Responds/ trains to my voice, but does not do what is more important i.e. respond/ train to my 8 year old childs voice for whom the gift was. She very easily lost interest in the device that responds to her dad but not to her!
