It's SHORT! And that's why it works! Finally a thimble for these BUMPY hands!
These little silver thimbles that cost around a quarter a piece, have made me happier than any hundred dollar purchase i've made in years! I am overjoyed that i can finally do hand sewing comfortably again. I have bumps on my finger joints caused by Osteo-arthritis, and though they don't hurt, they have caused me great pain by not allowing me to use a regular sized thimble! I have searched in vain for years to find a thimble that was SHORT enough to stop just before the bulge in my finger and still large enough to fit, and stay on. Basically, I needed a SHORT, size ten, metal thimble. It''s hard to find a size ten thimble at all, and even harder to find a short one! Most metal thimbles are tall.I have tried the silicone thimbles , but my needles eventually went through those. I tried the silicone styles with the metal top, but i found the tops didn't stay put when pushing very hard on them. I tried the metal adjustable styles that cover just the back of the finger, but since I use the top of my finger and not the side, those didn't work either. I have put tape inside of the short ones I've found that were too big, and I've even tried to "stretch" the short metal ones that were too small by bending them open more with needle nose pliers! None of these methods produced anything that stayed on for long or felt comfortable.A note: the person who said that these thimbles would work on small hands is WRONG; they are a size 10, which is one of the largest thimble sizes, so they will fall right off of a small finger.I first noticed how short these thimbles were in the photo, and when I spotted that "10" in the photo, I started to hope , and when I checked the measurement of the height, I thought, if those measurements are right (and we all know how those things can go!) this could be the one! And. miraculously, it was!! After searching for at least ten years now, for a thimble that fits these bumpy hands, I've finally found it! Sounds crazy, but I've been wearing it around the house, just looking at it, like it was a diamond ring! And that's exactly what it iS to me!

all of these are thin, thin aluminum, and.. i supposeI should have expected this, no?i will keep them, and use them til they break, but i am wishing i had searched for a bag of sewing sundries elsewhere.

Great for small hands
I have small hands/fingers and most of these just fall right off but then I was able to order these and they work perfectly!! I also love that there is so many of them so I never run out!

flimsy but functional
On the smallish side. Saving grace is that the material if flimsy so one can bend to achieve a comfortable fit.

They really work!
I took a chance and I won. The adjustable fingertip is really great. I found if I turned it a quarter turn, it worked even better. That put the adjustable part half on nail side and the other on the outside of my finger. It's little lip really allows me to catch the needle and more on. I made this table cloth wearing it.
