Beats my Galaxy Watch 3 in a number of ways...
I've had a series of Galaxy Watches over the past five, or so, years. Right now I have the Galaxy Watch 3, 44, with LTE connectivity. LTE connectivity is the one thing this Alpiner X lacks that I'll miss. Otherwise, this is a great replacement, providing many of the benefits of the Galaxy Watch while avoiding its single biggest drawback.Let me begin by describing the painless pairing process. I initially tried to connect the watch to my Android phone simply through my phone's Bluetooth settings. That didn't work and I had to restart Bluetooth after deleting the initial pairing because the Alpina app didn't recognize my watch when it had been previously paired to Bluetooth. Once I removed the pairing, the Alpina app quickly recognized my watch, paired and downloaded new watch firmware. The process was made easier by the phone's haptic feedback making clear things were going correctly.Once the watch was updated, the digital screen and analog hands adjusted automatically to the correct time. Heart rate was correctly read by the watch. Steps are being read accurately--at least, the watch's count is in accord with my phone's.Lacking LTE for phone calls is somewhat of a shortcoming compared to my Galaxy Watch 3, but honestly, I don't use the LTE connection much. The Galaxy Watch is almost always connected via Bluetooth through my phone, and I've only talked on the watch a few times this year when I forgot my phone. So the loss of LTE isn't going to bother me a great deal. What makes up for the loss of LTE connection is an always-on actual analog watch face. I have to leave my Galaxy Watch display off to make it through two days without needing to charge the battery. And when I do use the always on display, it has to be a very dim monotone to conserve power. This watch's analog dial is just beautiful. The presence of a classy watch face that doesn't disappear to conserve power makes up for the lack of LTE. I appreciate the ability to receive notifications on the phone, but honestly, notifications on a phone annoy me most of the time, so this ability of the Alpiner X doesn't mean a lot to me.The Alpina app by which the watch is controlled seems like a fine app to me. It has a low rating on the app store, but so far I'm not disappointed with it.The watch must be charged to run. It does not work with a cordless charger. Instead, Alpina has its own proprietary charger that connects to the watch kind of like a capo attaches to a guitar. It's a bit of a finicky process, but it works when you get the leads lined up.Alpina is a quality maker of Swiss watches. It's been around since 1883 and is a known maker of good watches. The movements that power their watches are a combination of quartz movements purchased from a Swiss manufacturer along with automatic movements, some with complications, made by Alpina itself. Finally, my watch arrived without the charging cord. I contacted Alpina support who sent out a cord immediately without requiring any proof of purchase. I'm grateful for such good support.

Simple, yet effective
I have always been a fan of collecting watches, but I’m also very into technology. When smart watches first came out I liked the idea of being able to have all that tech with me but they were always lacking the design features of classic mechanical watches. This watch is a great combination of the two worlds. It has all of the features that I need out of a smart watch but still retains the refined look. The screen is very crisp and the ability to use the regular face of the watch as a touch screen is very interesting. I did not receive a charger for it initially, but within 2 days of me contacting customer service, they quickly sent me one next day which I was very impressed by. Overall I’m very happy with the quality of the watch overall!
