When it comes to filters, I always put on the name brand (Mercury or Quicksilver) and I like to do it every year regardless if you used non ethanol gas or not. I try not to play around with that and avoid dirty injectors. And get the special key like the one showing in the picture or you most likely will be in a world of pain.

This filter is essential for the Mercury outboards. For my motor (135HP) it fit perfectly. This is a cartridge that goes into a built-in canister inside the engine and it also protects the fuel system from injecting fuel contaminated with water into the injectors or cylinders. All owners of motors that use this kind of filter should carry spares on board, to protect the motor from contaminated fuel coming from multiple sources.

Not much to say, it's a quality OEM brand fuel filter. If you like taking care of your outboard with OEM brand filters, then this is the one for you. Be sure you have the special tool for removing and installing these. You can get aftermarket ones here on Amazon pretty cheap. I definitely recommend one vs trying to twist this off with a screwdriver or other means, which I have done before, but it's not fun.

I replace this part annually on my Mercruiser 4.5l MPI as part of my fall preventative maintenance. This is the OEM part so you know it isn't going to give you problems and is cheap insurance against fuel problems. Do yourself a favor and get the proper removal tool for this easy, 5 minute do-it-yourself job.

Use screwdriver shaft or Red Cap Filter install/removal tool and 3/8 ratchet. Carefully remove TPS linkage bar (if required.) Inspect & Clean the fuel bowl. If you find anything, even one little spec of Amber coloring. IMMEDIATELY replace the Grey fuel line, the inner liner is TOAST. If you don't find anything, and it's been more than 4 years since fuel line was replaced, get a new fuel line.

Fuel filter fits a 2006 Mercury Optimax 200. Also you better go ahead and get the tool to take it off it’s a must have.

I could’ve easily bought the 2 or 3 aftermarket filters and saved 20 bucks, but after reading the nightmare reviews on those falling apart or breaking while installing them, I wasn’t taking a chance. Your motor cost a lot of money, so just spend the dough on the Quick Silver and some peace of mind. Read the reviews before you buy that aftermarket trash. Get what you pay for on this !

I returned this filter. The filter I received was not a genuine Mercury Quicksilver OEM filter. Luckily I had an OEM filter in hand to compare it to. I have shown some of the differences in my photos. Among them, the Mercury OEM filter has a thicker and better fitting O-ring, it is a deeper colour, has thicker filter material and there is a metal clip holding the pleat (the one I just got does not have this). Also, the NON-OEM filter has some sort of weird glue substance in the opening above the pleated filter that the OEM one does not - again, see pictures. I want to ensure buyers are aware. I would not risk putting this into my engine.
