Does this continuously use power or does it go to "sleep" so that there is no constant battery drain if the car is not running?

It goes to sleep if engine is not running. Read on AEM website, it has a full info on how it works

i have a 2006 pontiac solstice. would it read my OBD2?

Yes! Works for your Pontiac! Juts plug and go!

Will this work on a 2000 bmw e39 5 series?

It will not unfortunately. The CAN protocol that this gauge operates on was not made standard across OEMs until 2008

Does this include the white faceplate?
