Excellent Knife!
This knife is a solid buy for $40+/-If you get your knife brand new and the assisted opening feels sluggish or doesn't lock into place upon opening, have no fear. I opened and closed it about 50 times after oiling it and now it works like a champ. The only issue I have with it would be that the lock can't be manipulated with one hand. Other than that, it is a solid knife, cheap, smooth opening, razor sharp out of the box and like the name implies; it is very slim. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy use though. More of a pocket knife than a combat folder.

12 years later...still trash
I really wanted to like this knife, it is the thinnest EDC knife I could find with assisted opening and fit great in all types of pants pockets. I have had a few SOG products and haven't really been impressed. When I first received it I was not pleased with the sharp edges where you thumb would rest and really, a lot of sharp edges on the handle. When used extensively for a repetitive task it would damage your hands and fingers. But I wasn't planning to use it that much, mainly just for carrying around. Unfortunately after a few months of very light duty it started to have problems. It no longer closes completely, it can be forced into closing but drifts out almost 1/4 inch making it so that it will open at the slightest touch. Almost a near disaster when this opened in my pocket during a pickup basketball game. Also, the screws holding it together had become loose and one has been lost in the carpet (they are tiny screws). The knife is unusable right now.No problem, I thought, I'll send it to them like I do with my Benchmade, Kershaw etc and pay the $5 to have it maintained and sharpened (they will recreate a tip if needed). But no, their website says they want $9 and it has to be a money order and I have no #*$& idea to even get a money order. so as far as after-sales support they are crap as well - avoid this knife as it will eventually come apart due to a flawed design and crap execution.

This knife should be the perfect EDC knife, but...
This knife should be the perfect EDC knife. It's very thin and light, goes completely unnoticed in you pocket, both by you and people around you (seriously, I carry it in the front pocket of dress pants and it simply vanishes, thanks to the dark finish, slim profile and perfect deep-pocket clip, no bulge, no pocket sagging), it is very solid when opened and locked, has a nice grip and it is razor sharp, more than enough for our ubanite EDC needs. The only thing that keeps the SlimJim from being the definitive EDC knife is it's assisted opening mechanism. It just DOES NOT WORK, period. When thumb-opening, the blade simply won't lock and will even bounce back, putting your fingers in danger if you are not careful, and the safety lock sometimes slides down to the locked position when inside your pocket, like others have mentioned in their reviews, which can be extremelly annoying when you pull it out and try to deploy the blade. That being said, I have developed a technique to use this knife properly. As I pull it from my pocket, I slide my thumb up the frame to pull the safety tab up in case it had slid down and I use my index finger to deploy the blade, instead of my thumb. The action even fells softer and smoother this way (it takes just a flick of the index finger) and the blade locks correctly 100% of times (so far anyway...).This is my go-to EDC knife for it's amazing portability and now I can use it properly, but I feel shouldn't have to figure out a specific technique to make it work as intended, therefore it looses one star. If SOG ditches the assisted opening mechanism and turns this knife into a manual blade, it will be the perfect EDC knife. Until then, if you want the portability (which, again, is really amazing), you'll have to get used to it's bugs.

Tricky to open one handed until you get used to it.
Over all, I'm very happy with this knife. It came super sharp and has maintained it's edge well so far. At first, I was not that happy with the opening mechanism. Pushing on the post with just your thumb will not get the blade to open all the way. You have to push with both thumb and a finger in the other side.
