Another Amazing Set
Another amazing release by Viz Media. I watch the DVDs religiously and it was always such a struggle given it was in SD format. I only want to watch this show in HD format and nothing else. This HD remaster is great and looks beautiful. Similar to the first HD box set, this will probably be as beautiful as the show will ever look (unless they decide to eventually do a 4K remaster). Could you imagine Naruto in 4K? GAGGING!!!The second set continues to follow the adventures of Naruto, as he navigates ninja school with his friends Sakura and Susuke. As the show progresses, new characters are introduced. Things start to level up a notch in season 2, and the gang starts tackling more serious matters that are less kid friendly. Talk about intense training. I refer to season 2 as the FORREST SCROLL SAGA. The dubbing is TOP NOTCH. However, not sure why Viz Media keeps using female voice actors to voice male leads, but i digress. The video is in its original 4:3 aspect ratio as it originally aired on TV. The box cover says 16x9 widescreen HD and it’s a BIG TYPO! Talk about quality control. Viz Media, tisk, tisk! This is the second time Viz Media has done this with the typo. It makes one think someone in their corporate offices are getting a paycheck and NOT doing any work. This is so basic. How someone misses such a glaring flaw is beyond me. Clearly, they are NOT Naruto fans!Once again, this show aired in the early 2000s, so don't expect to be blown away by the HD remaster. It is very subtle, but noticeable. Things are definitely sharper and the colors a bit brighter. I don’t see a drastic change in the hand drawn backgrounds though. The characters on the show are immediately noticeable because the lines drawn by the artists are vastly sharper. It is NOT a WOW FACTOR as you would get from a 1980 or 1990s anime show remastered in HD, but its subtle and better than the DVDs.I am not a tech expert and I am sure there are various technologies / machines out there that do HD remasters. This is just a wild guess, but I think Viz must have used a different system then everyone else. I just think the Naruto sets could have been leaps and bounds better. Plus, their HD remaster of the TV show Bleach seems non-existent. I almost feel tricked when I pop in the Bleach blu-ray box sets. I really don’t see a difference at all when comparing my Bleach DVDs. However, for Naruto, please check out my pics and i hope it helps. Also, pick up this set and SUPPORT THEM!!! Thanks, VIZ!!!

Picking up speed
I’m making my way slowly through Naruto. I just finished this set. The first set was pretty good, it really set the stage for all the characters and was a little slow at times, but this one kinda speeds things up and brings more out on all the characters. That’s kinda where this set really stands out and thats with character development. Honestly, Rock Lee kinda steals the show cause of towards the end of the fight between him and Gaara and his development/background. When he was first introduced I thought he was oddly animated and just weird, and while he is weird looking his animation is very fitting for him and he really grew on me and has become one of my favorites. Naruto really works well with what it is presented as. The characters have weird techniques, but unlike an anime like Basilisk which I really didn’t like, they make their techniques seem believable. Partly because it is animated in a fantasy way and they actually explain certain things like Shino and his bugs. In Basilisk it seems like a realistic anime so seeing the weird techniques never set well with me, but Naruto presents itself in a way that I never was put off by essentially the same thing. It seems like it’s continuing to get better and I’ll be watching set 3 sometime soon, so hopefully it will continue to impress.

Quality issues
The discs were sliding around lose when it arrived. The case does not securely hold any of the discs, it’s basically useless. I have to either rubber band it or I’ll have to spend more $$ replacing the cast. So frustratingThese flaws are frustrating because they can and will result in future damage or lost discs.
