After racheting it into the turning mechanism as far as it can go before it is too full to turn more, approximately how much length is left out?

If you know how to use these, my question to you would be, what difference does it make? You should never ratchet the strap into the turning mechanism to the point it cannot turn anymore. If used properly, the amount of excess would vary with the size of whatever you are securing.

How long is the lead strap connected to the rachet?

The lead stripe actually connected to the ratchet is 8 inches long. The hook connected to the lead strap adds another 2 inches for a total of 10 inches.

Nothing to complain about, although the ratchet strap gets jammed easily if you don’t use the appropriate length for your application. 4 stars, just because I got a cut trying to pull out the excessive strap from the ratchet itself.
