A good starter kit for getting into wax seals, works as advertised.
I purchased this set to use in conjunction with my pen-palling hobby, the idea of applying antique style wax seals to my envelopes and messages being quite appealing to me, and at $20 on sale, I couldn't really find anything else that had both the wax and the seal together in one package for the same price. What you see in the photos is pretty well what you get, a seal/stamp, three sticks of sealing wax, a spoon for melting said wax, and two little tea candles to provide the heat the melt the wax. The packaging is reminiscent of an old manuscript or a book and is handsomely decorated, albeit with just the company's logo, but it does have some nice ribbon on the lid and the bottom of the box you can synch up in a knot or a bow to keep everything from falling out (although a rubber band really works best, I like the touch anyway), the inside is faux velvet, cheap but it does look and feel good (again a nice touch). The seal itself is made of good heavy brass, which is good since brass doesn't cling to the hot wax and separates easily, and the lettering and decoration is nice and crisply etched into the metal, which itself has a nice finish to it. The handle is real varnished wood, much to my surprise, and is fairly easy to hold when stamping out a seal, and of course the seal can be unscrewed from it and replaced with another bearing a different letter symbol if you so choose. The wax is the modern flexible variety, which means it will bend and twist along with the envelope without cracking or separating from the paper, which means it's safe to use in the mail with the modern mechanized sorting machines (best to use it away from the actual joint in the back of the envelope and use as little wax as you can get away with in making the seal in order to avoid a surcharge in postage and/or having your seal destroyed if the letter is inspected by customs or other authorities, just so you know), and you get three different colored sticks, gold, silver, and red. These tend to last for about 10-20 seals per stick, depending on how much wax you use per seal, and I'm still on my first three sticks after having got this set over Christmas, although I do know how to make my own sealing wax when they do eventually run out.The candles that come with this set are definitely on the cheap side, and the flame they put out is rather meager, but I've found them to be perfectly capable of melting the wax in the spoon include with the set in a reasonable amount of time, after all it isn't an instant process, and worst comes the worst you can always go get a bigger candle for pocket change (I'd recommend against using a torch, for you can get a little carried away with those melt too much wax too soon) . The spoon itself has stood up to repeated firings over various candles well, and it's definitely better than going and blackening up a kitchen spoon, and provided you clean it well after you've poured your seal, it ought to last a long time.A note on making seals, you ought to have a couple practice runs on a piece of junk paper to get the process down before doing your first envelope, and it helps to mark the top end of your seal with a little "X" or other mark on top with a permanent marker so you don't have to keep looking at it to check you don't have it upside down or sideways, you can always re-use your test wax be peeling it off and re-melting it again when doing it for real.In short, if you're looking for an inexpensive but good way to get into making wax seals, this is the set for you. I've been making merry with mine for months now, and I couldn't be more pleased with it, it works great and the seals are very regal and beautiful looking, adds a nice personal touch to all my letters.

Perfect for Adding Something Extra
I ordered this last year during the holidays so I could add something extra to my Christmas cards. I love getting gifts for people and wanted to leave a lasting impression. This wax seal is also nice if youโre not wanting to seal the envelope with saliva, if you donโt have glue and arenโt send anything through the mail, ie. hand delivering. You donโt need that much wax either. Just need enough to make sure the design is in the wax itself. It also dries quickly so you donโt have to worry about waiting a long time for them to sit. I will be ordering more in different designs or maybe even special occasions.

If kings used wax seals, it's good enough for me!
I've always thought it was neat when I saw characters in movies using a wax seal on a letter, so as a kid I tried it myself....using crayons (as I'm sure some of you have, haha). Needless to say, it's not nearly the same thing. As an adult (by age only) and seeing Tywin Lannister (R.I.P.) on Game Of Thrones recently using a wax seal, that "sealed" (see what I did there?) the deal for me and I knew I had to have a kit like this.It looks just like the picture shows, and you can pick what stamp you want. I'll admit, I don't use the tea candles or the spoon that comes with the kit, I just use a small butane ligther to melt the wax and it works perfectly. I can't imagine fussing with the candles and spoon makes things any easier and that's the only reason I give this three stars--everything else in the kit is awesome, I think the candles just aren't necessary.I did a few practice stamps at first just to get an idea how much wax was needed and how long to leave the stamp sitting in the hot wax before removing it. I've seen other kits/comments mention a releasing agent to help prevent the stamp from sticking to the wax but I haven't had any problems with that. I leave my stamp in the wax until it pretty much completely cools and wiggle it ever so slightly side to side when I pull it away and I haven't had any problems with it not coming off cleanly. As far as how much use you get from one wax stick, I've done about 10 stampings with the red wax (the red is my favorite) and have about half a stick left.If you're thinking about this kit, I don't think you'll be dissapointed. If you're like me, you're now looking at fancy paper and pens to write some pretty cool letters.Want to really bring a smile to someone's face? Sit down, write a letter with a pen (no keyboard required), and put a wax seal on it. Instant coolness.

Beautiful Cards.
I bought this for use on my Christmas cards this war and it looks stunning. The kit is beautifully packaged and very easy to use.The stamp head can be removed for use with another stamp which is handy and it made to a very high standard. The only downside is that I would use it in a ventilated space and the sticks do give off fumes but this is expected due to the use of rubberised wax.I would highly recommend this product.

A graceful rage against electronic messaging
I bought this as a gift for a friend who enjoys the pleasures of a bygone time, this was a gift that looked and felt quality, and was warmly appreciated.Perfect for those who still enjoy sending and receiving letters and cards in an electronic era. It also adds a touch of class to gifts too.
