Q: Does the installation of this device depend on the use of the threads of the existing faucet spout? What about a well-spout or an acrylic spreadspout?

Yes it does, you need a standard faucet head with removable aerator. It attaches with a 15/16-in x 27 male thread

Q: How do you prevent the hot/cold water from mixing in the rest of the home/business as this would create a cross-connection between hot/cold water?

I also had an issue with the cold water pushing into the hot water side. This is not really this products fault. The issue is that the hot and cold water is connected inside the faucet as I like to have both on to get warm water. My water pipes must have a little lower pressure on the hot water side (which is not unusual cause hot side has longer length of pipe to get o the same faucet) which would cause the cold water to push hot water back into the pipe system. The end result is no hot water for a long time. I found some check valves from Delta from Amazon (Delta RP53468 Pilar Check Valves) that I installed at the faucet valves under the sink for fixing this very issue. This solved the problem but were not cheap (~$28 for a set.).

Q: If the battery died or something wrong with it when I wasn't home, the water will leak everywhere?

First of all, we have had no such problems with the battery or leaking once properly installed. However, it was not easy to install and leaks when the washer was properly seated. With all that said, we bought this for our cats to drink from so they could have a supply of fresh running water. To that end, our cats never figured it out and it was a waste of money. I do NOT recommend this this faucet for your pets. Furthermore, you could be better off just getting a faucet with a motion sensor if you want such a thing. I prefer to turn on the water the old fashioned way.

Q: How do the consumer and the manufacturer handle the 1 year warranty? Who will pay the shipping/handling to return the defective product?

You will pay the shipping if you need to return it, but they will reimburse you for the shipping. I've not had to return mine so Im not sure how the manufacturer n the consumer handles the first year warranty. All I can tell you is to save the box it came in and they give you a phone number to call the manufacturer.
