I think I'm in love
When my sister told me about this book I laughed at her. I keep a rather extensive to-do list and project boards, and rely heavily on Trello (still do) and the Getting Things Done system (wonderful book for people trying to get on top of their lives, chores, projects whatever). I use a similar system where I list the three most important things in my day - all without the book - but I also struggled to get anything done at all and felt overwhelmed. I didn't see how this book was supposed to help me 'organize and focus'. The first week was pretty much a disaster, but the weekly introspection helped. The daily - what happened? helped too. By the end of the month, I've gamified the system to help me honestly rate my personal score instead of going with a feelings based result. Priority task is 4pts, secondary tasks are 2 pts each, and the last bit are one point each. I might do stuff off the list, but I don't get points for that. It has helped me to stop beating myself up over not completing the list. I also choose weekly tasks from my trello projects, after breaking them down into mile stones. My priority task is a meaningful tasks for me, something life goal related and tends to repeat daily. For example: write 2000 words for a short story; it's usually something that will take more than 2.5 hrs to complete and may not be completed within the week. But progress is important. Secondary tasks are milestones that can take between 1-2 hrs to do. Progress is important too, but I try to make sure the milestones I create fit into this timeframe. It helps me to learn how to estimate my time better so that I don't overbook my day. My less important tasks are things that will take between 15-30 minutes to complete, and can be short group/bulk/similar tasks (like inbox-0). The other thing I do is group days. I have two days that typically get the most interruptions (Thursday and Friday), so I'll make page a thu-fri day, and I'll use the spare page for Sat-Sun - which are days I dedicate to secondary and lesser tasks, like spring cleaning, gutting a closet, or just catching up on tasks I hadn't gotten to over the week. A few weeks ago, I wasn't sure this book was going to be much help. Four weeks later, I've come to really appreciate how it's made me think of my day, what's really important to me, and the value of making progress on long personal projects. It's help me accept my limitations and learn seek help where I can. Now I can't imagine going without.

This Planner is a Game Changer
While I am sure there are other planners out there similar to this one, and the methods employed throughout are not 100% unique to the Productivity Planner, I still give this planner two thumbs up. I have never been much of a "planner" person. I live and die by Google Calendar, but as far as actual planning goes - it was typically long and exhaustive lists in my Field Notes that had no rhyme or reason. The Productivity Planner has changed that. Here's a basic rundown of what I like about the product: - Quality is great. The cover is very durable and feels great in the hand. The pages are strong and nice to write on. Typeface is very aesthetically pleasing. The bookmark ribbon and elastic book band are nice touches, as well. - I still get to brain dump at the beginning of the week with a list of tasks/goals. Those tasks then get prioritized on a daily basis as you plan your week out. - I like the integration of the Pomodoro Method. While I was aware of this method before getting the planner, I had never employed it and it helps. I am actually on my 15 minute break between pomodoros right now. - There is a lot of self-reflection and evaluation, which in theory will lead to better results. Every day, you rank your productivity 1-10 with a brief explanation. At the end of the week, you look back over the week and review what you've done. Very helpful. - There is a lot of explanation at the beginning of the planner, which I initially balked at because it's like 20+ pages "wasted," but as I read I realized this is actually a strength. Quality content, and kinda funny. - Motivating quotes on every day is a little added bonus. I can't really think of anything bad to say about this planner. So far, it has made me a more productive person and helped me become more organized and mindful of my time. 10/10 would recommend.
