If they were stainless, they would be much more expensive, right. This is not my product, but I've been in the spice business 30 years. Spices are dehydrated, they're SUPPOSED to stay dry. Manufacturing (and storing) spices means keep everything dry for food safety. They're labeled, don't wash them, just refill. It's actually safer. If you do, just dry them quickly, it's fine. **Q: What is the country of origin?** A: China **Q: Are the lids screw tops? Thats important.** A: No, they don't screw on, they're just pop on/off - but the lid forms almost like a vacuum seal, it's a very tight hold and I've never had a lid fall off! **Q: Could you tell me if the tins are made of stainless steel (on the inside). Not sure if they are made of steel or aluminum?** A: I'm almost sure that they are stainless steel because that's how they feel, they are very light weight. The same color that and material that you see from the outside they are inside. They were easy to use to build a spice set. Mostly I got them for myself and liked them so much I ordered myself another and one for a friend who lives in an RV. He loves them as when he arrives at his destination he removes the box from hiding and sticks them to the refrigerator. They stay where you place them and are easily refillable. They are durable (one fell off of the fridge while driving on a rough road but sustained no damage) and they are leak-proof. You can easily customize them using your favorite BBQ spices or spices that don't have pre-prepared labels. These are bomb-proof! They receive positive comments from everyone that sees them. I may even order more so I can have a box of 'out of the ordinary' spices and mixes. They were shipped quickly and safely.
